Seed Germination- How did it grow for you?
Just wonder how the tomato seeds germinated this season for those of you who sent me SASE for my heirloom tomato seeds. I keep a diary of pros and cons so U won't hurt my feelings if things didn't go as well as planned. U should have about 85% germination. Let me know Yea or Nay and what varieties did well or didn't do well for you. Thanks. Any feedback is helpful for me each season.

Green Giant germination was 100% (2-2).
1st 2 sowings of Dark Queen failed but the 3rd time was the charm. Total DQ germination: 58% (7-12). |

Germinated seeds the first time in Ohio before last frost date this year and I can see why it's more difficult compared to Florida and needs heat mat. Normally it takes 2-4 days for germination in Florida, it takes 5-10 days here. Also seedling stage is longer. In Florida it's 5 weeks, here it's 6-7.

100% on the 1884 Douglas. 4 for 4
The rest will be grown next year. So many to choose from each Spring. Good problem to have. Thanks again for all you do for us.

The one I really wanted was Ruby Eclipse, and I would also like Autumn Beauty, Joker, Moonwalker and Zohar. Do you have many of those left, by any chance? Thanks!

Hi!
Thanks again for going to the trouble of sending seeds. I did get two Stump of the World to germinate but they both had helmet heads and were difficult to get going. One looked as if it was going to be blind but it did send up a leader after a while. They are both growing strong outside in their pots now, one smaller than the other large one. Looking forward to tasting their fruit. |

Marianna's Peace and Thessaloniki came up 100% (2 for 2 on each).
The Thessaloniki leaves got really curled during that torrid stretch of weather we had but new foliage is doing fine now that it's cooled off. MP is looking good! Thanks again for sending them! |
