Red Robin
These are my Red Robin's. I have grown them for five generations. They are in air pruning pots and Coco Coir. I think Red Robin is an heirloom.

But as for it being an heirloom, after doing a lot of searching I can find no evidence for that, some even say it's an F1 hybrid. https://www.google.com/search?q=red+..._AUIBygA&dpr=1 http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussi...from-red-robin Carolyn

I've got two growing right now. Stout, thick stem and deep green leaves.

I'd appreciate it if you can tell me where you read that and post a link.
Thanks, Carolyn

http://www.sakatavegetables.com/home...anum-Red-Robin
Sakata sells it but I don't see that they claim to have bred it and it is definitely OP. If you look through their catalog ( just click on "next variety" on this page to see) any tomato that is a hybrid is specifically labelled so with the name thoughout their website. Interestingly they sell it in both their ornamental and their vegetable listings and it is unusual in not being a hybrid since most everything else they sell is. Not sure if RR is an actual heirloom but it has been around for a while for sure and every seed company I have seen that sells it sells it as an OP or doesn't specify hybrid. I have grown it myself from home saved seed received in swaps. Enjoy your little mato's they are very cute plants I recommend to Check out the micro tomato threads here on TV Bettaponic, there are some busy breeders developing new ones, blacks, yellow, pinks, multi-flora, all kinds of things coming out of their work and they are often looking for folks to help with grow outs if that interests you. Sakata says they are wholesale only but do distribute seed to many commercial places in many countries.
I found this link to be very helpful http://www.sakatavegetables.com/inde...main/index.htm I clicked on the Northeast and found which companies sold Sakata seeds. And yes,in an earlier link I addressed whether it is F1 or OP and gave a link. And I also forgot to say that I found the place where it was said that it was an heirloom, but I'm not in the mood to go back and regoogle. Carolyn

The etsy site seems a little misleading. Red Robin is a pretty common variety.

[QUOTE=BettaPonic;619204]Daves Garden says open pollinated. I have saved five generations of seed.
http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Red_Robin ***** Yes, and then I asked folks to read the comments that were made about DG saying it was OP, which gave a different perspective from some of those who grew it.. I think it's also good to know that when a hybrid is bred, and I'm talking about the earliest ones, that if the two parents are very similar then it's usually possible to get an OP out of it, as I did when I dehybridized Ramapo F1 to an OP and at the F3 it was already stable as Ed was noted as saying in this link http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Ramapo And yes,the two parents of the F1 are known.
