Had my first one today and must admit that it should have been on the vine one more day BUT there was no shortage of flavor in the little guy! Bottom half exploded with great tomato flavor. Won't rate it yet until others come in to compare. Top half I just had to nibble but I thought it was very good. As the pic will show, a good amount of seeds. Weighed in at a hefty 1.5 oz. I know it's only one but I'm happy with the plant size, (huge), amouont of fruit, health of plant and taste. Seeds will be saved. Just wish I had a Black Cherry to compare it to.

My Purple Haze tomato's look to be a half way point between the Cherokee Purple/Brandywine and the Black Cherry. Seems like many take after the Black Cherry from images posted here.
Had to take images of the two Purple Haze plants and tomato's with my Film SLR Camera, the digital battery died. Will post the images once I get it processed. Take care, Randy

Here is a pic of two Purple Haze tomato's. F3's PL plants that seem to grow like a Brandywine and fruit in between Cherokee Purple & Black Cherry. Look like 3 oz Cherokee Purple's. Taste like the mix! Yum, yum, yum....
Take care, Randy

Hey Randy,
Your PH look quite similar to what I am seeing here in California. Are you also getting the size variation from cherry to mid-sized tomatoes? Ray |

I'm not getting the same yeild you are getting on your plants. The tomato's all seem to be around 2-3 oz in size, looking like Cherokee Purple, all in a PL . Excellent taste! One was very early to mature, the other slightly longer. Take care, Randy

Hi Tania,
The Purple Haze Plants were started under flourecent lighting back in mid February, grown in our patio window from April to May, then stuck outside in garden. Matina & Stupice Cross are loaded with tomato's right now. Cosmanaut Volkov, Momotaro, Debearo Pink are all growing very well with lots of tomato's. Some green ones up to 5 oz, lots of smaller ones. Everything is slower this year! Even the garlic is slower to mature and the bulbs are smaller... Take care, Randy

Excellent tasting tomato! Smaller than Cherokee Purple, mix of taste between the CP and Black Cherry.
A great tomato to grow! Cheers, Randy

I started one F2 plant this fall hoping to just get a taste and save F3 seed. I wish I had known to start many more!
This RL huge plant bore 6 oz oblate black fruit with yellow epidermis that had wonderful flavor. Usually my fall tomatoes are smaller than normal as the nights get into the low 50's and flavor is less than it is in spring. These, however, were good size and very tasty, even when the nights got into the low 40's. They are still setting fruit now and I have saved about 200 seeds so far. I plan to grow out more F2's and these F3's this year. Maybe we should form a group and keep track of what everyone gets from the F2's and F3's similar to the dwarf project. That way, if my 6oz RL is similar to someone else's, we can exchange seeds and compare them side-by-side to see if they are the same. In this way, we could then name each selection to stabilize and not send them out with the same variety under 20 different names. What does everyone think?

Hadnt even thought about it until now but my lone Purple Haze seedling is RL. I only gave it one spot this spring but now wish I would have grow several. Its a little late but I sowed a few more seeds today to see what leaf type they end up being. Probably pass them along to a buddy if he has the space. Id would be tickled if I got similar results to what you got Linda

My 2008 growout results for Purple Haze F2s are posted at TOMATObase:
http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/index.php/Purple_Haze We had a pretty bad year, but the taste was good despite the poor growing conditions. F3 seeds will be started in a couple of weeks Tania

While we had a hard freeze at the end of December and it whacked my remaining tomato plants, I am still getting 2 or 3 Purple Haze every other day or so. They will all be gone soon as the freeze killed off all the new buds. You can see 3 Purple Haze tomatoes in the bottom right of this photo, and ironically, the plant outside the window is the Purple Haze F1.
I've got 3 F1 cuttings that I am trying to nurse over the Winter and plan to keep the F1 version going in my 2009 garden. ..kind of a strange photograph - - you know, the "Circle of Life" sort of thing...... Ray |

Good stuff Ray, good luck on your growout of the cuttings. And thanks for giving me the opportunity of sampling PH this year if things go allright.
