Great looking plants! Enjoy potting up, I enjoy doing that. Then again I only have about 25 plants to pot up.

Default One Sixth

It took about a hour and a half, but that included drilling all the holes in 100 cups and getting everything together. The ones planted in 2" pots are the little ones that took longer to come up and/or got shaded by the taller seedlings. Last year, the ones I planted in the 2" pots took off growing fast - I'm hoping the same happens this year.

In order they are:

1884
1884 Purple
Belmonte
Big Beef
Big Boy
Big Zac
Bradley
Chapman
Cherokee Chocolate
Cherokee Purple
Di Tiganesti
Gregori's Altai

Love the cat making sure a bird or critter doesn't come to the party! Very nice to see your garden get started.

May I inquire about this post? I just transplanted mine today into plastic cups and would
be interested to know how long I should wait before beginning to set them outside. Thing is, right now our days are low 40's and nights are low 20's,so I know I couldn't put them out for long at these temps. Also, some are looking a little yellow, can I use a weak fertilizer mix now?

Thanks
Mike

Mike I used full strength MG plant food from the seedling stage just to see if I could kill them.
I started out with what is now a monster and then did the rest.
All of this information is on my tomatoes and peppers thread.

lol Worth, that bowl is perfect for mixing the potting mix. I use a smaller sized one to wash the mix off my hands. It's 80F today and feels hot.

The cat's name is Neko. She's a good cat that our daughter-in-law named - she would be named after this character https://www.google.com/search?q=neko...HbImD0EQsAQINw Neko outgrew their house (Or something like that) so now she lives with us.

I used around 45% strength MG with mine - but otherwise a lot like Worth has on his thread.

I wanted to get half the flat potted up today but got one third instead.

The next 12 varieties potted up today are:

Maiden's Gold
Queen Marbena
Sangeorgiu De Mures
Spudakee
Stump of the World
Sunny Boy
Vorlon
Zogola
Ace 55
Acme
Amethyst Jewel
Azoychka

Salt the plants look great.
The mixing bowl is eaxtly the same one I used to mix small amounts of soil in the house.
Then for potting them in the peat pots I used a hoe and a 40 gallon tub.
I would just set the pot in the tub and start throwing soil in it with no regard to how the plant felt about it as I held it by its neck.

I will edit in the varieties I potted up today in a bit.

After two days of potting up nine baskets with 12 plants per basket and a bunch of 2" pots - this is the picture I was looking most forward to seeing

Mike, I wouldn't put them outside at all at until about 2 weeks before they get planted outside for good; UNLESS in your area the daytime temps will be in the 50's or higher and you've got a place to shelter them from too much wind and direct sun. How long ago were they sown? If they're yellow, make sure they're getting enough light and that your mix dries out between waterings. Many people don't fertilize at all until after setting outdoors. I've used watered down fertilizer and still stunted seedlings that were only a couple weeks old by burning their roots, so be careful with that stuff.

Btw, AlittleSalt, I'm really enjoying being able to watch you and others starting their season and caring for their seedlings while we're still in the throes of winter!
