My next chance of seeing a real one is around the 1st of April for the spring migration. The fall migration which starts around the middle of August is much heavier.

Lots of pipevine swallowtails this year. Feeding the hungry cats was fun; they seemed to grow by the hour.

Yes, these are Pipevine Swallowtail cats, eating aristolochia fimbriata. They were so cute/ugly!

I get attached to cats in the garden. Between dill and fennel it seems fennel is preferable. They don’t seem to like bronze fennel, however. If no fennel they’ll use the dill.

My grand daughter and I think your babies are cute! My mother used to grow a wide row of dill, in Ontario, which used to get covered in Monarch butterfly caterpillars. Fascinating to watch. Once they arrived mom would leave the dill to them.

I let dill seed through my backyard orchard. Definitely not in an orderly row, lol! It vanishes here in July but I noticed today the arugula, cilantro and dill are all germinating again. Probably the funniest looking cat is from the giant swallowtail- looks like bird poop.

It's so nice to see photos pertaining to butterflies in the dead of winter. Keep them coming!

Here’s a Gulf Fritillary on the Hamelia. Looking for my Zebra Longwing pictures; they’re my favorite.

This year’s other project - bee garden in front yard ‘hell’ strip.
Can’t say enough good things about African Blue Basil as a bee plant.

That's ambitious! It will be nice to see it grow. After reading about the blue basil I will be growing some for my bees.

Thank you! The worst part is doing projects like this in summer in Florida...

It is mesmerizing to watch all the different bees on the African Blue basil.
It roots very easily from cuttings.

What a fabulous idea! Your bee garden will certainly be a head turner. Very innovative of you to use a patch of your front yard like that..

Thanks! Between the street radiating heat and the southwest exposure it was really difficult to keep grass happy anyway. Neighborhood reaction has been positive so far.
