Question about saving seed.
Since my garden is under LB attack, I was wondering, if
-Is it is safe to save seeds from a garden? -Can I save seeds from completely green tomatoes, if LB gets to them before they had a chance to ripen? And a non-tomato question: -Can I save seeds from a cucumber that was not developed properly, i.e. mis-shapen due to incomplete polination. Would the seeds germinate? Thank you. Maya. |

Green tomatoes may have some viable seeds, but probably not all that many...if the 'gel' is clear, then maybe...since the LB spores require live plant material to remain viable then seeds, that are fermented and then bleach dipped should be fine...but I wouldn't put them up for trades.
The cuke...no, if it is misshapen because of poor pollination, then the seeds it does have probably are fine, but there aren't going to be enough of them to really make it worth letting it finish and ripen. |
