Default Refractometer suggestions

Hey guys.

Any advice RE purchasing a refractometer? I've noticed a wide range of prices, but am thinking that I don't need the 'best' one around.

Any good leads or info regarding this?

Thanks,
Matt

I got one last year from NaturalCheck.com for about $40 and am completely happy with it for my need which is just for my home use.

Just wondering what a refractometer is used for in tomato crossing?

Primarily for measuring the sugar composition of tomatoes....selecting parents, offspring, etc. Also good for monitoring changes in the garden as a whole.

"Gardening in the Green" or "General Discussion" forum would have been better suited for this topic. Here is a link for a introduction to Brix. Ami

Have you Googled "used laboratory equipment"? I found a really good refractometer (the classic kind we used in chemistry labs as undergrads) sitting unused in a department here and they just gave it to me (for work use). Some of the newer versions are really cheap and funky.

I just ordered one from the source Kath listed since I have been meaning to buy one for 2 years now. I ordered on Thursday night and received it Saturday morning! It looks like a good quality built one, too.
