Default Guildo Pietroboni

Any thoughts on this variety? Is it worth a space in the garden, before I go requesting seed in the Wanted Forum?

I have "Gildo" Pietroboni, if you need some.

There was discussion a few years ago on the Gildo/Guido issue. Give Amideutch a shout. I know he grew it and was part of the name conversation. No specifics, but my memory tells me the discussions about it were very positive.

Tell me more about the name conversation. Can you direct me to a webpage?

The reason I ask, is because I have a letter in front of me with the history of this tomato. Unless this letter writer made a spelling or typing error, or a friend of Mr. Pietroboni's son made a spelling error when giving the seed and history to this letter writer, the name would be Guildo, and neither Gildo nor Guido. Hopefully we can clear this up, if it needs to be cleared up.

Well, after inserting different spellings into a search, I found a thread...

The last post leads me to believe, but not completely conclude, the name is Guildo.

And after reading about the tomato, G. Pietroboni , I'm looking for seeds.

They had me at "these seeds came for a three pounde oxheart tomato but the tomato resembled a paste tomato. they were originally brought back from italy..."

If you find seeds and grow them, please put me at the top of the list for a couple of seeds!

I have seeds from Geza and Tatiana both from 2015 as well as my own that I saved that year.

The correct name would be Gildo

"The case is solv-ed."

Inspector Clouseau

There were a couple of misspellings both in the letter and the old thread, above. Neil is even going to call Ferp again, to triple check. But, I don't believe the obituary got it wrong.

(but then again, I've seen family death certificates with complete name errors, let alone spelling errors)
Now, is there any way to edit the thread title to correct the spelling?

“I have the advantage of knowing your habits, my dear Watson,” said he. “When your round is a short one you walk, and when it is a long one you use a hansom. As I perceive that your boots, although used, are by no means dirty, I cannot doubt that you are at present busy enough to justify the hansom.”

“Excellent!” I cried.

Elementary,” said he.

I have to say that of all the large varieties I have ever grown it is the largest consistently. I grew it two years in a row and it produced huge fruit regularly and also very large plants. My biggest complaint was the ones I grew were very bland but if you want a sauce tomato that will fill the pot quickly you should try it.

I’m growing it from seed I bought from tatianna’s a few years back. Never grew it before though.

Hmm, I trying to envision Clouseau as a hansom driver. It doesn't end well.
