Texmati Basmati rice is the best plus it is grown in Texas.

Finestkind.

However, my brother would agree with you, if his wife (who does the shopping) didn't know better.
Story has it Blue Plate was going out of business.

Anyone that uses more that t cups water to one cup of rice of this type has barking up the wrong tree.
No wonder you dont like it.
Sounds to me like mush.
It is washed out.
I put the water and rice in a pan bring to boil turn to low and put a lid on it.
It is then cooked for 20 minutes and taken off the burner to rest.

Mmm, never crossed my mind to try that, but it sure sounds like something I might like to try. I might have to try one on myself before hubby because he is a diehard grilled cheese guy. Of course I had to change him over from the gross kraft cheese slices to using better cheeses. I grate my cheese so it melts really good.

Along with the tomato slice between the cheese on either side, try a couple slices of thin cooked bacon.

Also, there is the inside out version; butter up or mayo your bread, add cheese as normal, but add grated cheese to the outside. Toast in a hot pan.

My mother used to put the cheese between the bread, dip the whole sandwich in beaten egg, then fry. The cheese was usually a mix of mozzarella and provolone as that was always on hand. It wasn't until we started eating school cafeteria lunches in junior high that we kids "discovered" American cheese grilled cheese sandwiches.

Totally agree. But it's expensive.

Maybe the Royal package was old.

I did a couple searches on this. There are "Blue Plate" restaurants and caterers that are or have been closing, but the mayo brand is owned by a pretty large company. No hint of the company or the brand failing.

I'll have to buy some Blue Plate mayo to help it stay in business.

Yeah, I gotta stock up before you can't get it any more.

Anyone remember the Great Mustard Shortage?

Reading all these grilled cheese ideas to add tomato, bacon and dip them in egg then fry them. Boy does that sound good, lol. All the while I am having some leftover tomato soup from last night. Yum, tomato!

My cousins had a twist on the egg-batter twist. They smeared the outside with mayo, which is a combo of oil and egg. It darkens very quickly on a hot grill, to the point of looking burnt, but makes a nice crisp. Just be careful or it really will burn.

Also slice the tomato thinly or it won't soften as I prefer it.
