Is Giant Aconcagua just another name for the Aconcagua pepper or is it a different variety? As far as I can tell, the descriptions for both in vendors catalogs appear the same.

Yes, they are the same heirloom pepper - they are big (8-12") in comparison to most peppers which is why they are sometimes described as "Giant".
