Default Kumato OP?

Looking at tomato seeds on eBay, I see quite a few "Kumato" listings. Of course it's really unlikely that any of these are the "real deal," but someone may have done a decent job of dehybridizing the original tomatoes. (?)

I tried some F2 seed I had saved, and they were not good at all. Well, they were the right color!
Has anyone had better luck? Or has anyone gotten acceptable results from purchased seeds from eBay or elsewhere?

My guess regarding the Kumato situation:

The hybrid variety was developed to be grown by partner farmers under certain conditions. And I am guessing those conditions include some added salts to the growing solution. So the flavor of the tomatoes in the stores are a product of both environment and genetics.

I bet the folks that might find dehybridizing useful are the bonafide "dry-farm" growers.

But that's just a guess. When I dehybridized Kumato and grew it under my standard field conditions nothing tasted like the store Kumato.

Which is why my Kumato-derived lines were discarded long ago.

My Kumato F2 saved seeds were started the same time as other tomatoes, but took a very long time setting and ripening for such a small sized tomato. By that time I had all kinds of better tasting large heirlooms, and was no longer interested in what was a good winter store tomato, but to me did not compare to home grown summer OP or heirloom varieties.
