Accidental Crosses

I grew several accidental cross plants this year. One is the Riesentraube cross that I named VHS Cherry. Another one was a Zapotec cross that tasted wonderful. And then there was this one that is supposed to be a Pink Bumblebee - it brings a smile to my face every time I see it. The small tomato in the picture is what size it should have grown to.

It would fun/nice to see some of the accidental crosses that you may be growing. Please feel free to post pictures and info

VHS Cherry tomatoes (Valentines Heart Shaped Cherry) Not a Riesentraube But it is a Multiflora.

hmm, that last one looks like Riesentraube to me. red cherry with the pointed bottoms, multiflora.

Karen, I am confused if it might be a Riesentraube that just grew really big in our garden? This thread is what makes me think it may be a cross. http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=37039

Salt ... Your PBB cross is awesome!!! I don't know what it got crossed with but it sure is a looker.

I'll never grow another PBB without seeing your cross in my mind. I hope your going to save the seeds and grow them out. I would love to see what develops. What you going to name it? Pink Hornet or Pink Stinger since it is bigger than a bumblebee?

I wish I had taken a picture of it with a golf ball on the side. The picture below is from a ripening tomato that I took off the plant as I was removing the plant from the garden. It isn't as big as the ones three weeks ago.

I also noticed that the seeds are not the same size as the ones that Worth sent me from Tomato Growers. The seeds on the plate are from the tomatoes I grew. The seeds on the pack are from that pack. I'll be starting 4 of both of the seeds tonight to compare.

Star, how about I start saving seeds from it tomorrow, and when they dry - I send you some of the seeds. Then we can both grow some and You can name it.

I agree Paul. It has a very nice shape and tastes really good.

I hope it is how Riesentraube grows in our garden.

If it is a cross, I'm hoping the f2 grows out to look and taste the same. Many more knowledgeable people here have warned me that F2's might not even produce tomatoes - much less be the same.

Our gardens are big enough to take a chance. I honestly have no idea what to expect, but I am willing to try. Those much more knowledgeable have already set the table - I'm hoping to deliver a dish that table will accept.

The seeds I sent to you are F1 ... or maybe they are Riesentraube? I don't know?

I welcome anyone who wants to send seeds for Riesentraube. They need to arrive by July 17. I will plant them and document differences. Just PM me.

I know you will enjoy your growouts Salt, it will be fun for the rest of us to see what comes of it too. You will find it addictive I bet.

That big one looks just amazing and I am sure it was delicious!

If you want I have some from 2010 Riesentraube seeds. I'd be glad to send them to you and you can compare to the two types of seeds you have now and grow out. These were from a grown and bagged tomato.

Multi-reply lol - Karen, growing tomatoes has been a life-saver for me. Before I started gardening in 2010, I followed many doctors and pain specialists advice and was taking medicines so strong that my pharmacist would not say the name of out loud - so other costumers wouldn't hear that they carried them. I started gardening and stopped the meds. Tomatoes and peppers are the star in our gardens. I will enjoy the growouts even if they don't produce favorable results.

Star, I sliced the tomato instead of just squishing it to get seeds and juice. It turned out that it would not have done much good to just squash it because it had very little juice. A meaty tomato is an understatement. It had a high acidic and sweet balance - very tasty. Of course, who knows what it will grow out as?

As I wrote above, you can name it whatever you like. For now, I labeled it, "Star Cross"
