Default What will you do with the first ones that ripen?

Today is potting up day for my tomato seedlings.

This got me thinking about ripe tomatoes and how I will eat the first ones. I don't count the cherries, although they are usually first.

Tomato sandwich? Sliced and salted as a side dish? Or just straight from the garden, with a bit of salt....mmmmm! I just don't know.

So how do others in the NH plan to use those first ripe ones this summer?

Likely straight from the garden. No time for condiments on the first one, as I'll be almost inhaling it after so long with out homegrown tomatoes LOL.

Probably to the seed processing center for seed saving....

I'll actually be carefully slicing into four equal sized slices
to distribute to my DW and 2 DSs.....

I'll have to cut it in half and share with hubby. No salt, no pepper, straight from the vine to my mouth.

My first should be Stupice. And I assure you, it will go right to the hose for a quick rinse and 'pop', down the hatch!! No time for salt. yet. Happens like that every year. Family doesn't see the firsts ones inside until I've had my tenth!!

Greg

then BLT
then tomato salad..ect

I bite the bottom off and suck out the juice. Then I stand there with my eyes closed feeling it move through my whole body.

Thats almost twisted

Definitely not going to make it to the house, unless it is big enough for a little salt and pepper

First I feel it in my mouth then it creeps to the back of my throat then up into my ears and head. Then down my neck and into my shoulders and arms. Then it starts to make my heat feel all warn and fuzzy. Its like an infusion of summer. Then it moves down my legs and into my feet. At that moment I feel like I am rooted in my garden. At that moment my soul feels its purpose. I am one with the Earth..

Plop myself down in the grass beside the garden & dig in & savour every moment of it. It really is only a 2 1/2 to 3 month, fresh-from-the-garden season here, and those other 8 1/2 to 9 months without is an interminable wait. The only tomatoes I consume between late October and late-June/early-July are those tiny santa sweets and the like because at least they have SOME flavour. I absolutely can't stand the mealy cardboard "hot house" tomatoes and refuse to buy them. I won't even allow Subway to put them on my sandwich!! So those first tomatoes are treated like ROYALTY!!
