Well, Greg, they are just anxious to show off what they will be this year! By the way, I planted all of my experimental hot and sweet peppers today....I will be posting my germination percent, the color range of the seedling leaves, and pics of each within a few weeks.
The season really is underway - I now have about 3000 tomato seedlings popping their heads out of the soil (two flats) to go along with my hot and sweet peppers, eggplant, lettuce, etc....

good one, Kat! Actually it is my annual struggle to get loads of seedlings ready to sell at the Farmers Market without a greenhouse! Each year is an adventure!

I seriously don't know how you do it. I have only planted up about 50 seedlings and it has taken a week. I finally decided it was ok to get dirty yesterday and it went a little faster. I have about 100 more to plant up and I really need to get it done before I kill them all. Do you have any set system that you do to make it go faster?

Three more of each making it 6 total for both plants in just one weeks time.
Will I notice the dark leaves from #5 right away or will that happen as it matures. Greg |

The dark coloration can show up quite quickly, but gets most pronounced in sunlight, then age. Once my peppers emerge, I will take regular pics and post them so you all (or should I say "y'all"?) can see the coloration developing. Pepper 5 was unusual in that it ended up with the darkest foliage, but didn't emerge with the darkest cot leaves. go figure.

Make it 8 of 10 for #5. Funny what a few hours under the lights will do.
#5 is nice and bright green coming out of the ground so we'll see. I'll get a pic later. greg |

In the very first post in this sticky thread, at the end, I am tracking my germination results of these varieties, so we can compare. I will be just continually editing the post, so it will be up to date at any given time.

It's been 10 days now and it looks like they have finished.
#5 8 -10 germinated #10 8 - 10 germinated Only one seedling from #5 has some purple to it's cotyledon but it's still early. Tough to take a pic that close. Greg |

I just updated the first post in this thread (with the pics) at the end with my day 9 germination and cotyledon color observations. It is early days....I just took off the Saran Wrap, so the Cot colors could change as they get some sun...but some clear mixes are showing up (which is expected and what makes this so much fun - they are works in progress!)
In a week or so, when the colors become more distinct, I will take pics of each of the cells and post them.

Pics of peppers planted on 2-15.
Pepper #1. I planted 4 sponges with 3 seeds each for a total of 12 pepper seeds. As you can see, there is a variety of cots in each sponge. Some are purple, some are green, and some are striped silverish/purple. At this point, 9 of the 12 seeds germinated. The row behind pepper 1 is Pepper #47. Hard to see because they are so dark against the dark sponge. All cots in this one are dark purple. So far, 7 of the 12 seeds have germinated. Next up is pepper #8. 15 seeds planted in 5 sponges. 14 seeds have germinated. All cots are green.

Pretty good results, Barbee - I expect quite a bit of variability with Pepper 1...Pepper 8 is a curious one! It is clearly the result of a hot pepper crossed with a lavendar bell! So despite all green cot seedlings, fruit shape, size and heat and color variability is expected. And 47 having the purple cots is pretty expected - though again, you will likely see some variability.
