Garlic leaves over 3 feet long!
I noticed today that the leaves of my Estonian Red garlics were unusually long, so I just had to measure them. Most were 32-36+" and a couple measured over 38"!
I don't remember ever seeing leaves this long before, and the other varieties are mostly 28-32". Anyone else have leaves this long? TomNJ |

Yes, my German White porcelain types were about 4 feet tall with the seed ball on the top...much taller than the Ajo Rojo, which kind of fell over at 2 feet.

I didn't mean plant height, I mean the length of individual leaves. My plants are about 2.5 - 3.0' tall without the scape or stretching the leaves up, and like yours many are leaning. If I were to hold some of the upper long leaves straight up the plants would be about 5' tall.

Hi Yopper,
They are looking good so far - plants are healthy and the Walla Wallas and Candys are about 2-3". The Big Daddys are just beginning the bulb up - probably liberals! I'd say another 3 weeks to harvest. We had a warmer and drier Spring this year with April running seven degrees above normal! The tomatoes are the best I have seen in years, and even the bottom leaves are pure green. Garlic are bulbing up nicely and will need another 2 weeks to harvest. Overall much much better than last year!! TomNJ |

never measured the leaves, but asian tempest is one of the more impressive garlics i have grown. the plant itself is big, and once the scape uncurls, the thing is about as tall as i am. i'm 5'10" .
