What Blue Tomato Was It?
At the garden center today there was a raised bed planted with various vegetables.
What caught my interest most was a cherry size NAVY BLUE almost black tomato. There was no tag and no one to ask about the tomato. What was it? No kidding, it was DEEP DARK NAVY BLUE. |

Sounds like Indigo Rose. I grew it last year and the tomatoes were almost black. Took forever to ripen and when they did, I didn't care for the flavor.

These looked much darker than the pictures-does Indigo Rose lighten as the fruit gets bigger?

The color development depends on how much light the fruit gets. More light makes for a darker fruit, so any given example can vary a lot.
They do taste distinct for a tomato, different enough to throw off any tomato-based recipes... but I like them. |
