Tomato candy, Cossie...
For those of us without a hothouse or greenhouse and no knowledge of them, your pic is absolutely awesome... And it all looks sooo clean... Needless to say, good growing. Love your work |

Thanks Grub. I make people take off their shoes when they enter - they can keep them on in the house though. The hothouse has been a godsend because we can get frosts right through to December - even had snow on Christmas. Tonight it's only 4 degrees outside. When we cop the westerlies they come from Patagonia across the Roaring 40's right to my backyard and we have the salt to contend with too as we're only 40 meters from Bass Strait. So the tommie babies have to get all the help I can give them.

wow cosi...that's an awesome looking greenhouse.
personally...i've never been able to get used to this wearing shoes in the house thing down here...it's such a show of disrespect where i grew up and i still can't bring myself to do it. i'm the only one i know who does, and i get looked at funny for it. so i'm 100% behind you in laying down the law in that greenhouse! spotless. *nice* lynlyn...why yes...i was away getting my fix of sweetcorn. what did you think about corn over there? if you ask me...what they pass off here in WA as sweetcorn is what i would call 'cow corn'. tough and, usually, mouldy by the time it gets to the shops. even the frozen corn here tastes mouldy. and having to pay for one cob here what i paid for a dozen beauts at home...well...i've just got to sort that problem out for myself! i'm about done trying to grow my corn organically. i need some better (bigger) results...so this year, i'm afraid, i'm going to be building a non-organic bed to grow corn with commercial fertilizers. now... never let them say that complaining doesn't bring results. pomodoros, brandywines and green zebras are up this morning! *happy dance* |

Tessa, there's method in my madness. My father was an avid tomato grower in England and grew most of it his produce in a greenhouse. He maintained more diseases are carried in on people's shoes than by insects, soil, water or air. I have a pair of canvas slip ons inside the greenhouse that I simply slip on when I'm working. It's just habit really. I don't need any excuse to be barefoot. They are the type that can be washed if necessary. We built the greenhouse ourselves using mainly recycled material so its design was dictated by the timber available. First year we only had plastic cladding which was OK in the warmer months. We've now double glazed it when I got a nice royalty payout that I didn't expect, so only have to give it a minimal boost with heating on cold nights.

That's right, it's getting to be that time of year when our SH mates start to give us NHers a hard-time with pics and such. Ouch.
I hope we've kept you guys entertained and pulling your hair out these past few months as I'm sure you'll be doing the same to us as "usual." LOL.

Thanks Grub for the color info on Grub's Mystery Green. Echoing Earl here. As our NH season winds down, we'll be looking forward to lots of descriptions and pics. Blessings to you all.

Cosmic,
I have tried a couple of times to access your blog. It comes up with "No Page Found". Is it an Aussie page and I can't see it? Sue |

I'll change it in the footer. Sorry about that.

Somehow I no longer seem able to post a link in the signature section. But a cut and paste should do it. The picture of my hothouse is on Message 60 Jeff. It's not exactly an maginicent thing but it works.

Tessa, you're corn is my corn. We had a converstion about this in Ausgarden last year. I'm also originally from Canada....ring any bell.
Let me know if you have any success with your corn this year I'll be more happy to taste test it. (I'll even take my shoes off) Cosmic, thanks for the calendar note to self : Look at Cosmic's calendar BEFORE you do all your work in the garden What did I do yesterday : transplanting What did the calendar say : Avoid transplanting What did I do today : moved shrubs in new spots What did the calendar say : Unfavourable for roots Won't get too many points for that one. lol! Back to work see ya later |

So this is where everyone has got to
Spring is here and I'm excited. Not growing as many varieties this year due to 18 F2's of my cross and Grumpy F4's taking up lots of spaces. But still have many new ones to look forward to such as: Yellow Submarine Aunt Gerties Gold Italian Sweet Crnkovic Yugoslavian Rainys Maltese Grandpa Willie Flathead Monster Lucky Cross Toms Yellow Wonder Neaves Azorean Red Sungold Earls Faux Your seedlings look really good Cosmic |
