Took a count today and here is what I have set so far
Indian Stripe 7/6/5 Break O'Day 14/0 Cherokee Purple 2/3 Jet Star 3 Pink Berkley Tie Dye 2/0 Gary'O Sena 0 Improved Summertime 0 Big Beef 4 Purple Haze 12 Green Giant 0 Summer Cider 0 Chapman 4 Goose Creek 0 Marianna's Peace 3 Improved Summertime and Goose Creek were way behind the others but both are growing nicely, just starting to form buds. And most of the ones that have set better are in the best spot with the most sun. Exception is Indian Stripe, it is represented in all 3 beds and has at least 5 on each plant

So far (as of 3/29) I have some fruit set on Purple Russian, Red Zebra, Golden Gem, Sungold, Bloody Butcher, Cherokee Purple and Black.
Red Zebra was the first to set fruit (about a week ago), but it was a huge, well grown transplant picked up from a local nursery and went out on 3/5. |

No fruit set that I am aware of. Plants look kind of ragged from wind, rain. Soon I will pick off the bottom foliage. Some of the plants need stakes.

Wow, they are really early fruitsets. I need to get access to the Purple Haze and Break O'day seeds for next year. I do have indian Stripe with flowers now.

Purple Haze is the best looking plant in my garden overall, just real healthy looking and vigorous. The Break O'Day plants are kind of wimpy looking but are loading up with fruit nonetheless

I have a ton of lime green salad that will be ready to pick when I get home in 2 weeks.
I think I have around 15 of these plants alone. I just love the things. Worth |

I have one plant with small tomatoes, maybe the size of the large marbles. But I do have a lot of blossoms.
I'm going to have to pick up some lime green salad seeds; it sound like it does well in this area. fourtgn |

Duane gets most of his fruitset about 2 weeks before me.

I've got about 15 or 16 on Big Beef now, and four on one of my Cherokee Purples. The other CP is behind, because it was stunted by some bad weather before I planted it. It's trying to catch up now. Looks like there's one on Ark. Traveler now, too.

My land is quite limited and the conditions are difficult, but sometimes I hit it right. I hope. From left to right New Big Dwarf, Sweet 100, and the discontinued First Lady are all showing. I expect my Carnival plant to be with child when I get back home from Easter. I have a Jalapa jalapeno showing fruit too.

My Stupice is loaded with green fruit. I'm estimating that I'll enjoy some ripe ones in my Mother's Day salad.

Improved Summertime has joined in now so I have tomatoes on every plant. This one is flowering like crazy and has a nice growth habit.

I am in Tucson and I am getting blooms on many of my plants, I have about 18 all different varieties. I have fruitset on two plants, and if the wind dies down, and I can keep the whitefly's at bay I will have lots of great tomatoes this summer.

Well, dang! I'm here in zone 10 SoCal, and I'll have to remember this thread for 2010... My largest seedling is 10", none are in their SIP's. I shoulda/coulda started earlier.
Of course it is much cooler so far this year than it was in 2008. I lost seedlings by the hundreds march and april last year. Too hot already. Crossing my fingers and hoping that I have better success than last year. What are your best practices for keeping the plants going during the up/down temp fluctuations? About how hot does it get where y'all Texans are? -----Jenna |
