Default 17 May 2016 Asparagus Bed Clean-up

The asparagus bed was cleaned up. Last year’s stalks were pulled up. Each clump was watered with a pail of rainwater from the roof collection system. This was delivered by wheelbarrow. A milk carton baffle is used to stop spillage when moving the wheelbarrow full of water. I find this system of delivery quick and efficient rather than using a pump hose system. A sprinkling of 16 16 16 fertilizer was applied, then the bed was mulched with a layer of wood chips to inhibit moisture evaporation from the Sun. There is still about three weeks of asparagus harvest left.
