Sunbrite, the 2018 Rodeo Tomato

Bought my Rodeo tomatoes today. I have been planting a couple of these every year for several years now. This years tomato sounds especially good and I wondered how many tomatovillians are growing them. They are available in most central Texas and Hill Country nurseries, the money ($2.49 each in 4 1/2" pots) goes to the junior master gardener program.

Have not seen those in Tarrant county. Made some decent salsa with Top Gun and Tycoon in years past. Have higher hopes for this years Merced OP from Ted's Muddy Bucket Farm, for a "go to" salsa tomato.

Somehow I missed Top Gun, what year was that? Any how I am glad to hear from someone else who grows rodeo tomatoes.

Top Gun was from 2007 but I came across Rodeo tomatoes and grew it in 2011 after reading through some of Jerry Parson's A&M archive .

Well.. this looks quite interesting. Not being from TX, I've never even heard of this, but it certainly sounds like a rather cool way to try new varieties, and at the same time, get some money into the hands of a worthwhile organization.

Shame there isn't something akin to this where I live. I'd definitely participate.

They are traditionally introduced and first sold at the San Antonio Rodeo.
