Old melon, watermelon, and squash seed should be treated as likely not to germinate. So, not to waste space in the garden, I plant the old seed first, then about a week later plant fresh seed of a different variety about a foot from the old seed, with a marker between them. If the old seed comes up, I remove seedlings of the new seed.

These are of interest to me. They're varieties I'll grow if I
have them, but probably wouldn't add to a seed order. I'm
doing a watermelon project next year, but don't want more
than 10 seeds of any of the melons.

Mammoth Blanche Leek
Hungarian Landrace Parsley
Dark Green Italian Parsley
Tetra dill

Golden Beauty Casaba
Ginger's Pride
Hale's Best
Healy's Pride

Ali Baba Watermelon
Halbert's Honey

And if no one else expresses any interest I'd like to grow the
Scaly Bark and Sand Mountain Sunshine too.

Oldman, in case you are unaware, bronze fennel doesn't play well when grown around many vegetables, especially tomatoes. I have no firsthand experience, but it is mentioned on many companion growing sites. No problem if you are growing with ornamentals, and good for pollinators.

Lisa,

I'm planning on using the seed as part of a scent/texture garden. First choices is putting it near the senior center. Second option is a small park next to an optometrist's office. Neither will be near veggies.

I wasn't aware of the vegetable problem, but I have learned fennel and dill shouldn't be grown near each other. They can hybridize and the resulting plant tastes bad enough that it has no culinary uses. :-)

Hi Gary I just want to say that I am sorry about my last post # 188. I was trying to make it easy to read, I made it with one variety per line than I posted it and it comes out as one long sentence. Maybe some one can help me learn how to do it the right way. Thanks. Mike

I don't think any of the peppers on my list so far are asterisked. If you need someone to grow out Corbaci or Friariello I can do it. Or anything else that's not too hot. I'm doing 4 flat of peppers and the last one only has 18 cells designated. You can add some that need growing out or I can just fill the rest of the last flat with rosemary and thyme.

Thank you for reading these scattered posts....

Going out today...

So J AR
Ha G CA
An R TX
Ki C TX
Xu W TX

Starting in the south. Up next will be likely AL, TN, SC, VA. A few of those I may be able to send on Saturday. I have no chance of mailing from the post office at this time of year, with a ~1 hour line out the door. December 26th is when I plan to get much more out.

And, if the following are here at T'ville, please PM me. I'm thinking some participants are not yet members (I get packages with nothing inside but seeds, no send-in lists, no wish lists, no contact info). So, here's my email address...dwcmuseum"at"yahoo.com (substitute @ for "at").

With the hundreds upon hundreds of "common" beans in my collection, along with one large package that has not yet arrived, I'll likely only post all of the runners, limas, yardlongs, cowpeas, etc... and post (hopefully on Saturday) only the regular beans that need to be replenished. You may also request the types of beans you'd like, or not like, such as...

bush, half runner, or pole

dry (colorful), or snap
round, or flat podded (Romano type)
green, yellow, purple, or pink podded

I'd like to try Honeynut and Hopi Black. And I'm willing to see what I can do with Australian Butter too.

Thanks for all the work you've done hosting the swap. It's very much appreciated.
