Default My Light Set-up

I made a few improvements to my light set-up:

1. Changed from Ikea wooden shelving units to wire ones with casters.

2. Changed the backing and top of the unit from reflective emergency blankets to aluminum foil. ( I still need to rig something up for the front)

I have a similar set up as you. I use mylar for the reflectors and drape it over each set of lights, front and back. I like the idea of being portable with the casters.

I have the same shelf unit and use mylar, too, but I use 2 light units per shelf.

I like your light setup. When do you like to transplant for the first time? My seedlings have been sprouted for about 10 days and are bushing out well. They are in a 72 cell plastic starter. (not much soil for the lil' guys)

Thanks,

Brad

Hi Brad,
I usually transplant based on my schedule (marking, running the kids around for various activities, etc) and not necessarily what is optimum for the plants.
The general rule is when the first true leaves have appeared the seedlings are transplanted.
If the soil is drying out rather quickly in their current pot then it is probably time to transplant up.
Take a look at a thread about "dense planting" and you will find another perspective on the issue.

Hope this helps,
JEff

Thanks Jeff,

I think my seedlings are ready for a transplant but I am out of room until I can get the weather to finish my greenhouse. I will keep them watered and hope to transplant next week.

I found your site too late to order from you this year and bought my seeds from others. Hope to buy from you next year. Like to keep my business local when possible. You have a great selection.

I started a few thousand snapdragons today from saved seeds for my wife and sister, out of lights, have them in a south window with no heat.

Cheers,

Brad
