Chipmunks?

Something dug into one of my pepper pots today and really tore up the roots on the one side. I just carefully replaced the missing soil but now the leaves are starting to droop. Is this from stress? And is there anything else I can do to help it recover?

I would guess it's from stress. Move the pot to a shady area for a few days until it perks up.

Stray cats around looking for a litter box perhaps??
Yes it could very well be stressed, give it a few days and maybe a teaspoon of Epsom salt with a quart of water to help perk it up.

I used the epsom salts & water, kept it out of the sun and everything is good! Thanks for the help. This my first attempt at gardening so everything that happens I freak out about hahaha.

Did it happen overnight? If so I bet it was a raccoon. Last summer I had a problem with them coming up on my deck and doing that to my potted herbs. They like to dig in loose soil and lift up the plant looking for grubs under the roots.

Around here, the squirrels dig in pots either trying to find something to eat or to bury something to eat later. We also have chipmunks and they dig holes for their dens. Are they "cute"? Well I look at them this way. They're both pretty tasty. But it takes a lot of the little ones to make a meal.

It happened during the day and the hole wasn't too big. I assumed it was either chipmunks or squirrels. They practically set-up shop around here because of all the birdfeeders we have! I moved my plants to an area away from all that noise and have had no problems since. Funny thing is I have pulled out at least 7-8 sunflower seedlings that have sprouted in that container since then.

Squirrels! I had a squirrel watching me from a nearby tree while I planted onions. A couple months later I had 3 tulip bulbs from the front of the house growing in my onion patch in the back!

Ha haha! I have about 20 garlic stems coming up in my flower beds - I didn't plant them, so guess who.
