Hi Everyone, it's Chicago_Joe
Hello Everybody-
I see there is a new home (at least to me) to talk tomatoes in peace, away from pop-up ads and rude ignorant people. Thank you Suze for the tip... Happy Gardening, Joe |

Status on my toms...
Bully-
My toms are doing great! Thank you for asking. In the 4 years I've been seriously growing OPs I can't remember a better growing season in Chicago, no disease, insect infestation, or drought. No ripe ones yet but I see some Black Cherries turning. So far my biggest dissappointment has been Aunt Ruby's German Green. The plant is 7 feet high and has only 2 golf ball size toms on it. The most productive has to be Opalka. Just to keep everyone up to date, here's what I went with this year: Bradywine Sudduth's Strain Aunt Ruby's German Green Earl of Edgecombe Paul Robeson Marianna's Peace Petit Couer de Bouef Cherokee Purple Grandpa Ludolph German Red Green Zebra Black from Tula Burraker's Favorite Black Cherry Opalka Yellow Pear San Marzano |

"Hey, Joe"
reminds me of a song... Good to see you here...this is a much better place to chat tomatoes. I'm sorry I do not have an GLGR's growing this year. I keep hoping each year will bring less drama here at home to consume my time, but alas...if it weren't for chris (ctomato), I wouldn't have ANY tomatoes growing. I hope the weather cooperates next month for starting a fall garden. I have several, including your GLGR seeds, that I must try.

Hey Joe, welcome. I'm in Chicago but my plants are at my GF's place in Skokie. The past 2 weeks I've been picking Matina, and the past 3 to 5 days I've been getting my first ripe ones from Silvery Fir Tree, Black Krim, Persimmon, Emerald Evergreen, Golden Queen (Livingston), Chianti Rose, Black Cherry, and today my first Sioux. The Black Krim has been flavorless and the others a bit watery from the rains we've recently had. I'm hoping the flavors will improve as the summer progresses. So far my favorites have been SFT, Chianti Rose and Emerald Evergreen.
