Default Making bags for blossoms -

Do you all make your own or do you buy them? And if you make your own, what do you make them out of? I did see someone posted a pic of some his wife made of curtain material. Any thoughts on bridal netting or the ultra-thin non-woven interfacing? How big do they need to be and how long do you leave them in place?

Thanks!

/Granny, who is "snowed in" and tired of knitting mittens!

I use sheer curtain material, but bridal netting (small mesh) should work as well. The interfacing might work but I would worry about overheating the pollen if you have warm weather. I find 4"x6" to 8"x10" work best for me. Turn under the upper edge to make a tube to run heavy string through to make a draw bag, to close. After your tomato blossom sets you can undo, Rinse out bags in hot water and reuse. Hope this helps.
Cheers,

I used the Search feature and came up with this related thread - I didn't read all the way through it, but there are 20 posts, and ideas for making, and ideas and links for where-to-buy.

Would bags made of nylon stockings and those velcro type ties work?

I bought the same thing from Walmart that squib did. Called Sachets and they have a draw string already sewn in. They had two sizes, small and medium. I purchased the medium size, they are approximately 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". I think I paid $5.95 for 12 bags.

I was going to post a pic..... of course the batteries are dead .

They are made by Wilton and are right by the cake decorating section (in the arts & crafts dept). Here's a pic:

I think they would work really well.

For you ladies who are using favor bags, are they like these?

The price & quantity on these looked pretty good to me - not to mention that they come in different sizes.

Them's the ones, Granny!
The 3x4 and 4x6 are closest to what WalMart sells. I use both sizes but if I were to only go with one I'd pick the 4x6. I don't think you need anything bigger than that. For color I'd stick with white or ivory. It's easier to see through the lighter-colored fabric what stage the blossoms are at or if any fruit has set yet.
