Default Colored Mulches/RED.

I have only heard of the red mulch on a forum once and that was like 9 years ago.
I was reminded of it again today on another thread here.
Any experience from folks here?
What are your thoughts?

Yes the red mulch on tomatoes seems to have greater & earlier yields - that's just been my observation from my previous years growing tomatoes with red plastic containers. And a community gardening friend who purchased the IR plastic mulch who used it on his ground plants had a phenomenal tomato gardening season using the red plastic mulch. I haven't done the red plastic mulches in awhile only because its just pricey. I've tried using cheap red table cloths and seems to have the same effect but the heat fades the color after awhile awhile so don't use it anymore.

Gardener's Supply were gung ho about it years ago, so I did some research, but came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth paying more for so I'm going with black plastic, 6 mm thick. However, I read somewhere that someone used disposable red dinner-sized plates around the stems, so I was thinking of trying that - if I can find any. The cheap red tablecloths could be cut up to achieve the same thing and the ends could be tucked under the black plastic. Thanks for the idea!

Default My wife thinks i'm crazy enough as it is.

If i start putting red plastic plates or red Mylar blankets around the stems of my tomatoes, they will haul me off. I would never get out of that straightjacket and get back in my garden.
I did see Red square plastic water holders that go around the stems at Lowes (i think) last year. I've been told by one big greenhouse grower that red Mylar works. I just don't have the nerve to try it.
