Default nutrient dense tomatoes

Which tomato varieties are the most nutritious? I usually eat tomatoes only based on taste but am now wondering which varieties give you the most nutrition. Any ideas?

There are several that claims are made for, mmmmm, CaroRich, and I can't think of the others off the top of my head. Supposedly have more carotene or lycopene - depending on which variety it is.

I think taste and nutrition probably have a strong correlation.

There's a variety out there called "Health Kick" which is supposed to be super high in Lycopene.. although honestly, most all tomatoes have a pretty potent dose of lycopene and other beneficial vitamins etc..

I also have a pack of an oddball tomato I found over a decade ago, called "Vita Gold" which is supposed to be super high in Beta Carotene.. (according to the pack, 10-15 times higher in Beta Carotene than other tomato varieties)..

Oddly enough, this variety didn't seem to really be around that long. Can't even find any reference to it anywhere on the internet, actually. If I didn't already have a pack, I'm sure I'd be completely unaware it ever existed.

They are all nutritious. Grow the ones you think taste the best. That way you will eat more of them. None of the ones mentioned taste as good as most any heirloom.

that has never been mentioned in any papers or articles I have read, but I believe this wholeheartedly.... no taste=no nutrients. the more flavor the more nutrients ....

I agree with Salt, the Peacevine is very tasty as well as the reputation for high nutrients. And must be adaptable to many climates since it did well for both of us.
I remember back in the 90's, my dad went on a craze of growing high carotene carrots. They were horrible. My mom said they actually made her sick and she had to stop eating them.
So I do agree with KarenO, the best way to get what you need is to plant varieties that you really love the taste, thus eating more of them. Lets not forget the mystery of secondary substances either. My personal theory is that the best taste is something tailored to your genetics making it easy to absorb and benefit from those nutrients, antioxidants, etc etc. that are present. There may be 'no accounting for taste' in this day and age, but maybe in future that will change.

I agree with Karen O. The ones you'll eat the most of are the ones that will get the most nutrition into you. Go for taste. Catch the obsession of growing & eating & preserving more & more tomatoes. The greater the percentage of your diet that is tomatoes, the less room there is for junk. I've seen members post here that their blood pressure goes down during tomato-eating season.

If I had only grocery store tomatoes to eat I would pass them up for something such as chocolate or cookies or something not so healthy.

As was said above by several, it depends on what any one person calls nutritious.
