Default Language Translations; Please Sign Up

I don't know where the thread is but many moons ago I made the suggestion that it might be a good idea to make a data base of those who could translate tomato names in languages other than English, to English.

And several thought it was a great idea. One person asked if it would be possible to also include pronunciations of names, so we can try that as well.

Sooooo, for anyone signing up to be a resource, list your language(s) and if only for translation, fine, and if also for pronunciation, fine as well.

Something like the following for EACH person signing up:

French, both translation and pronunciation
Spanish, translation only
Polish, translation only
Italian, translation and pronunciation

The way I see it ALL questions and answers will be publically posted, no PM's and no e-mails, so that others can learn as well.

This thread is for data collection ONLY, which I will do, so please do NOT contact anyone who posts in this thread NOW. Thanks.

I'll let it run for a month or so and then discuss it with Mischka as to how to display it. One thread for each language with all those who have indicated expertise in that language? I don't know right now, to be decided later by Mischka and myself; he knows the variables such as band width and such, I don't.

So, please do sign up if you wish to be a resource to others.

Joseph, there are many who are already familiar with the various online translating sites, Google being one of them.

But the experience of many, including myself, is that they don't always get it right,

In addition, when some of us were discussing it all those many moons ago, we preferred real persons, in this case who are Tville members, to do the translations and possibly pronunciations.

They are alive, if you will, and questions can be asked, whereas with Google, last I knew it didn't speak.

I hope so Michael, but if you scroll all the way down past the end of this thread you'll see that 93 folks have read the thread and there are some user names there that I thought might sign up.

So we shall see.

Carolyn, who understands Canadian Karen since the first time she went to Europe there were three Canadian lads who seemed to be on the same game plan of countries that she was and listened to them speak, a lot.
