It is the strongest hurricane to hit Texas in 56 years. All of the FOX and ABC coverage is in Corpus Christi and Galveston. Both are just wondering what it is like in Rockport. CBS has a football game still on. Maybe they will have coverage of Rockport?

I just overheard that the mayor of Rockport told whomever stayed behind to write their social security numbers on their arm. oh Lord.

Radar now shows Rockport is in the eye of the storm. No tornado warnings currently on the radar.

Same thing on CBS - Corpus Christi and Galveston.

The eye is over Rockport now at 10:30pm.

Yes, Harvey looks to be going after Carla's destruction record. Carla was a cat 5 1961 hurricane, but between 4 and 5, the destruction is about the same as far as ordinary folk see it. There's some talk about Harvey even changing the coastline from all the damages.

Yes, the Mayor of CC told people that elected to ride it out to put their names and SS numbers on their arms with black sharpie. Not a joke at all, many may die if they remain.

I am not liking the computer modeling on the proposed paths shown for Harvey. I am not a trained weather scientist, but many models are showing the hurricane to double back almost along it's original path in and bouncing along the coast towards the east. That seems wrong, the storm almost that tightly backing off the land like that.

Really cool Coastal, thanks for posting that! An amazing planet to have so many wind directions and speeds while we go about trying to live our lives.

That is a good map, coastal. I do not like the area to the north and slightly east being so weak with winds though.

That's a neat map. If you scroll in and look to the north, it's bringing in dryer air and that should help slow it down.

Hope all will be safe. Last I heard it was a Category 4. The map is cool but scary. Saying prayers for everyone.

The local news (in New York State) is encouraging people to fill their gas tanks/cans in case Texas-based oil refineries lack power for a while and national distribution is affected. Yikes.

Wishing safety to Texan Tomatovillians tonight!

I just seen Rockport on ABC News Nightline. There wasn't much info as they talked to the mayor. What you could see in the video was some damage to a gas station awning and some downed traffic lights. It's midnight here and there. I did not see any flooding, but the video was really short.

1/3 of our gas/oil comes from there.

I have heard the roof of the senior center has collapsed, and part of Rockport High School roof has collapsed. Their may be damage to the courthouse in Rockport and they have taken at least 10 people to the jail to use as a hospital. A high school in Aransas Pass lost it's roof, and many buildings have collapsed. Aransas Pass is 4 miles from my house.
