Default Fertilization question.

I was out trimming off leaves on the lowest part of the plants to get some air flow to prevent diseases. I noticed something strange. On my purple dog creek plants the first trusses had flowered about a month ago and i saw the flowers drop(just the flowers) and no tomatoes. After that the trusses higher on the plants started setting some fruits. Well the first trusses that just dropped the flowers have started growing tomatoes on them... 3 weeks later... I have noticed the same thing on a carbon plant a few years ago. 3 out of the 6 flowers appeared not to fertilize. After i picked those 3 ripe tomatoes off the others started to swell and grew tomatoes. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, it is a common thing. There is another thread about this recently, but I can't recall the title.
