Default Red Alert

Does anyone have any information on a tomato named Red Alert? I went to a small gardening center in one of the small towns in my area and they had a handful of heirlooms that they were selling for someone. They called her and asked about this tomato but she didn't really know anything about this one as it is new to her.

I went to get eggplant as only a couple of my seeds germinated. I didn't need any more tomato plants but I couldn't resist. I purchased three. Red Alert, Djena Lee, and a persimmon. I did find information on the last two on Tatiana's site. Red Alert is there but no information.

From an SSE listing:

75 days, det, 1-1.5 oz red fruits with a very good sweet mild flavor, heavy production, from Dr. Barad, New Jersey.

Ake from Sweden says about the same, says small red ovals, early and productive.

Another person in a different YEarbook says:

det, 3 ft, rugose foliage, very early, nicely flavored small red ovals, from Unwins in England ( seed company well known), brought back by a friend.

So that should give you some idea of what to look for.

Thanks for information on Red Alert.

Les, I sure hope it is GOOD since it is a cherry type. I already had three cherries planted and now I have four... What to do with so many! Wonder if it will be as productive for me. Not knowing anything about it and trying to fit it in I planted it in between some Brandywines. Since it only gets about 3 1/2 feet tall it will be shaded by the giants! I was in a hurry as leaving for Colo. in the morning and I didn't take the time to research. One of my little blunders.

Heirloom Daddy, when the owner of the garden center called and asked for information on them the lady didn't have much to say other then the Persimmon was one her favorites too.

Red Alert is one that I got in my package from Tormato. It was on his list of suggested tomatoes to grow for next year's swap. I am glad to find this information because my friend likes bite sized tomatoes. Husker Nana how did you like it?

Red Alert is my first ripe tomato. I found a couple of handfuls of them. I didn't expect ripe tomatoes yet, but there they were surprise surprise. The one plant was planted outside after danger of frost was supposed to be passed but I had to cover it a few times with a sheet. I picked the ones with color because they seemed ready to just fall off. They aren't really red ripe but I am not sure what color they are supposed to be when ripe. People around here look for the first tomatoes around July 4 unless in a hoop house or greenhouse.
