bokashi composting

I used bokashi all summer in my containers-best tomato year I have had in a long time. Is it the bokashi? I didnt do anything different, but I cant say it was for sure-too many variables. But it didnt hurt. I am using it now in my cutting lettuces, kale, chard, spinach, etc, and things are looking good. Anyone else use bokashi this past summer?

I've been using bokashi composting for about a year and a half--I like it. I do notice that if your don't let the compost sit long enough in the beds you put them into, the plant material burns up In all the beds that you let the bokashi mellow out---no problem. The diluted juice, as a feed, is great! Plants seem to love it!

I spent most of the evening trying to find out how to make the EM. I found out how to make the Bokashi, but can't find a recipe for the EM.

Zaz-I read somewhere that you arent supposed to use the juice as a foliar feed. How are you using it?

I use the juice as a plant feed not a foliar feed. I dilute 1/2 cup to about to 3/4 of a gal of water. Vegetables and flowers seem to really snap to attention. Used it on all of my houseplants too this winter and they've come through very healthy looking.

Michael, so your feeding the plants Bokashi juice that you have innoculated with mycorrizae correct? Ami

Z-I have done that also, but have foliar fed with 1 tablespoon of juice to a gallon of water.

Ami-my plants are inoculated with myco when I put them in. The bokashi is inoculated with this:

Michael, thanks for the link. I was comparing the types of microorganisms used in the EM-1 and what the folks at Fungi Perfecti use for their micorrhizal products. Here's a couple links that give the ingredients. One note, Fungi Perfecti now has a Mycogrow Hydro for hydroponic applications and can be used as a foliar as well. You will see it listed in the link. I had forgotten about this thread until yesterday.(My mind.....sigh....) My thanks to Woodchuck for resurrecting it!

I am a member of the Lane County Compost Specialists--a part of OSU Extension--we have just started a study of the pros/cons of Bokashi. One person has already begun using the Bokashi Bucket, but it is too early for any news. I will be ordering a 1 liter bottle of EM so I may mix up large batches of Bokashi for the group. I figure each 10 lb batch will cost about $5 for materials.

I don't expect much news for a couple of months, but I will keep you posted on all findings.

I found the price of the Bokashi Bucket to be nothing short of outrageous! Give me a free 5 gallon bucket, a little hardware cloth, and a $5 spigot, and I'll give myself a $5 Bokashi Bucket! Hey. Perhaps I should go into business......I can make nearly 900% on each bucket. Sheesh!
