Default Orange beetle eating fire ants

I attacked a rotten old tree stump in backyard to find a huge fire ant nest. As the workers swarmed out a large orange flying beetle almost immediately appeared and starting feasting on the ants. After a couple of minutes, it flew away. What kind of beetle is this? Will it also attack my tomatoes and peepers? If it only eats fire ants I wish more were in my yard. But the beetle only ate a miniscule number.
