I will certainly give it a try next year. It's main competition in the large pale yellow category is Hugh's and Lillian's Yellow Heirloom, both of which I grew again this year and did very well. It will also be competing with a new Dwarf challenger - Summertime Gold 2, one of Grub's finds that was spectacular this year. (Not quite as large at 10-12 oz, but great flavor).

I finally have some photos to show. Today (8-4), there are two ready with a couple more on the vine. The ripe tomatoes look like some of the other photos, but the green ones do not have the stripes; more of a blotchy look and the smaller green fruit has almost a heart shape to it complete with a tip. Our county fair will judge the tomatoes on Monday and these will be entered along with 6 or 7 of my other heirlooms so I can't cut them open and eat them until Monday night. More reports then.

ok, i finally have something to report. i do not have a digial camera. the only tomato i have not eaten is aunt gertie's gold and prue but both could be eaten today. tyw is still a day+ away from eating so it is the last to produce an edible tomato this season. this is rather late since agg is always the last tomato to be edible.

on saturday 8/4 i picked my 1st tyw. i took it cuz it was close to finishing and i protect tomatoes by letting them finish inside. it was also cracking across the base.

the open crack is 4" long with another 1" at each end that is not open for a total length of 5". at the worst it is 1/4" wide at the most open and is 1 1/2" long across the blosoom end.
this tomato is GIGANTIC!

i'd guess it weighs about 3 pounds it's 6" X 5" and 3 1/2" tall. there's 1 radial crack at the stem end that is 1" long. there is also an open crater 1 1/4" wide, 1 " long and almost 1/2" deep. these top cracks are old and dried up.

the last green streaks on it have nearly turned yellow over the past 12 hours. there's a pink blush on the blosoom end that is in the interior (i have not eaten a tyw yet) and the blush radiates from the bottom in streaks towards the stem end. most of that blush stops after 1 to 2" but 1 section has a 1" wide streak that goes to the top of the tomato and then spreads across the tomato parallel to it's equator. this thing is so big it could be a planet so equator is an apt term!

i think this could be ready to eat in another 24 hours.

there were a few dark spots (concentric circles almost) that looked like water or some problem but over the past few days it is less pronounced as they have lightened considerably.

the 2nd tomato was picked yesterday and is less ripe. it too is large maybe 2 pounds 5" X 4 1/2" and 3 1/2" high. both are DENSE HEAVY. this 2nd one has a pink blush too at the blosoom end. it is only 1/2" in diameter with radial streaks that travel towards the stem end for 1 -3". it has 2 radial cracks at the stem end. one travels past the base but it is very shallow and narrow, it's 1/4" wide and deep for the 1st 1" from the stem then mitigates into a minor crack.

there is still a few spots of green on it and i'd guess it needs another 3-4 days to ripen.

plants I found an "off - one" ...
This one displays more of the "Pineapple parentage" ...

Well, I can finally report that it appears I have a TYW almost ripe. Here in the pacific northwest it has been the worst summer in 10 or 20 years but finally we are seeing some fruit from out efforts..TYW was put out on Memorial Day. This first fruit was set early on in what I call my first setting phase, which means I usually get one to three fruit that set on my beefsteaks in late june, then next fruit phase was in late july and at least 35 fruit set on that phase, hope we get better september than july/august...

Here are a few pics from last night. I will probably pull the one ripe fruit tomorrow..

The plant is holding up pretty well for the horrible summer, it is around 6 feet tall, equal to my other tallest plants, brandywine suddath and german johnson.

This is the last TYW of the 2007 season. The bottom of the 10 oz tomato had some discolorization and it showed no blush like the earlier fruits did. It was as solid and tasty as an early season tomato. There was no hint of late-season mealiness and it still had a sweetness with an underlying hint of tartness; quite a nice tomato. All year long I had a problem with the bottoms having a discolorization which tended to turn rotten quickly. Not exactly BER, but similar. This is a very nice tomato and I will grow it again next year. Thanks Tom for the seeds and congratulations on your recent marriage.
