The seeds usually break the soil as little loops. Once the stem is upright and the leaves shed the seed coat, it's time to get them under lights. Otherwise, they'll get long and leggy very quickly.

I move mine under the lights the minute the first seed breaks the soil.

I got home today after seeding on Saturday to find a bunch of seedlings up and put them under lights right away have allot more cells with nothing to show but had to get them under lights now. Sungolds which everyone I give away seedlings wants seemed to jump out of the seeds. I just wish they all germinated at the same time lol.

I planted last Saturday and everything is up except for three varieties, and I'm all sad, like, "Hey, is everything OK down there?"

But for two of those varieties, the seed is old so I have no reason to expect that they'd be jumping out first.

Germination is so exciting!
