"feel bad" ??? oh brother !!?!! We're talking tomatoes here ! lol

I'm getting real close to getting mine in the ground.
I extended the garden last weekend ...
Just have to make 12 new cages; fill pots; and then I'm done.

I guess no more frost. So I took down the greenhouse.
The whole thing took about 7 minutes to remove.
I will be putting it back at the end of the season to grow some salad greens, or may be some cold tolerent tomatoes.

I really enjoyed this project. No transplanting, no hardening, No fear of frost, at least a couple of months early. Most of the plants are starting to blossom.
It's great to overcome what mother nature dictates

Here is the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzDqDBw_F54

All the parts for the greenhouse.

Plants right after the GH has been removed.

Dcarch -

What great looking plants ! Good growing !

After a super busy weekend, we are finally in the ground. I was able to extend the garden forward and sideways so overcrowing won't be a problem like it has been in the past. I also only planted 1 plant per cage this year compared to other years when I planted 2 per cage.

With plenty of air-circulation I feel like I might be able to combat air movement problems that inhibit disease ...

We're "on" now Dcarch !

Tom,
I highly encourage you (and others) to consider this concept. It's a one-time investment which is not a lot of money.

This construction will allow many people who are limited in space, $, and weather to be able grow many more late season varieties and enjoy ripe tomatoes much earlier; unless, of course, if you really like lots of fried green tomatoes .

I found two fruits on my Black Prince yesterday. Many more blossoms ready to set fruit!

Looks great man - but not for me ...
I already have 25 tomatoes in my main garden & another 25 in 3-5 gallon pots ... I really don't mind waiting ~

Also in the "future", I'll have a bigger yard and a greenhouse ...
I can wait ! lol ~

In concept, this idea is fundamentally different than a greenhouse. It is not meant to be a substitute for a greenhouse.

It's design purposes are:

1. To have seedlings planted directly in ground as early as possible without transplanting, therefore minimizing transplant shock.
2. Seedlings can continue to grow in their final spot in ground in cold weather to set fruit as early as possible, avoiding that one feared killer frost which prevents everyone from starting early.

Next year I will be starting even earlier.

Ripe tomatoes for Mother's Day! Never mind long stem roses.

I got 4mm poly panels from Farmtek. I got Velcro from ebay. Not a lot of Velcro was used. It's very strong stuff.
It has been really working out very well for Zone 6/7 for me. Plants are already setting fruit! I wish I had thought of doing this the past years.

This concept will make a huge difference in your area. You will enjoy growing so much more.

(p.s. Do you see any stakes? My "removable no-stakes" system works perfectly with the removable GH concept)
