That's what I keep hearing, which is why I sought out different seeds for it from a seed vendor. I also read a lot of great reviews for Gregori's Altai, which is why that's getting another chance.

For me, the planning and variety picking time of year is really fun. Scouring the inter-web seed sites and forums for something new with the hope of it being something really special is very satisfying and addictive. The hunt is half the fun.

1. Sungold F1
2. Supersweet 100
3. Russian Red (A friend from New Zealand sent me a packet of seeds)
4. German Johnson
5. Ferris Wheel
6. Dwarf Sweet Sue
7. Dwarf Sweet Scarlet
8. Indian Stripe
9. Isis Candy
10. Big Orange V
11. Hawaiian Yellow
12. Sirja's Love
13. WOW
14. Carbon Copy
15. Amish Paste
16. Brandywine
17. JD Special C-Tex
18. Cherokee Purple

...buuutt, the list will probably change a few times more before germination time.

Gardadore, Of the ones you posted, I have experience with three:

Anna Maria's Heart- This plant got hammered by disease, but it did survive, and was surprisingly tasty, especially considering it sometimes had as few as three green leaves left on it. I got 10 fruit off it despite it being hit so hard.

Dotson's Lebanese Heart- Fabulous plant. Large fruit, very vigorous, great tasting when ripe, also great tasting fried green. My garden was hit with Septoria, and DLH got it, but continued to grow and produce till frost anyway. I think I got about 18 fruit from it in a very bad year.

Orange Russian 117- Prettiest fruit ever. Zero taste. Knuckled under quickly to septoria. Got maybe 8 bland fruit.

I like to stick with varieties that have done well for me in the past and I tend to grow multiples of most just to make sure I have some in case I lose some plants to disease. For 2018, I have:

Levino
Elfie
Spear's Tennessee Green
Prue
Sugar Lump
Ingleheart Golden Cherry (my only new tomato variety this coming year)

The seed catalogs have all my attention. I started putting up my Christmas tree last Thursday and it's still not done, so you can see where my priorities are right now.

[QUOTE=Gardadore;673865]Here is my tentative list.
I must cut it down to 30-33 from 48 last year. Tough choices!

My experience with some that you list, many often grown in different seasons for SSE listings and also seed offers.

What I really want:
Ambrosia Gold
Anna Maria’s Heart, excellent
Berkeley Tie Dye Heart.
Beauty King
Brad’s Black Heart., usually very good
BKX
Blush , uniformly excellent
Cherokee Lemon., not outstanding for me nor the ones below
Cherokee Lime Stripes or Cherokee Lime

Dagma’s Perfection
Dana’s Dusky Rose, very good
Dester , outstanding
Dotson' Lebanese Heart (New),I know it as Omar's Lebanese Heart, initial seeds for beefsteak form from Omar which led
to heart form found by Darin.,outstanding.
Dwarf Beauty King (new)
Esmeralda
Esterina - Yellow cherry.
Everett’s Rusty Oxheart. (New), very good
Evergreen (New) another one of my fave GWRipes
George Detsikas ,outstanding for me
Girl Girl’s Weird Thing
Green Gables
Hege German Pink ,overlooked Ithink
Jaune Flamme, superb for me
Joe's Pink Oxheart, again, superb for me
KBX , also superb
Little Lucky or, 2 very good gold/red bicolors, I prefer the heart.
Little Lucky Heart (New)

Lithium Sunset

Malachite Box,a long time fave, even tho I have to always look up the original spelling when mentioning it.

New Big Dwarf, there are other dwarf's I'd grow but NBD was one of the very first known, not a part of the dwarf project.
Olive Hill
Orange Minsk , superb, and same for Orange Minsk Heart.
Pineapple, OK, not thrilled
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Rebel Yell. Yes I guess for you,
Solar Flare
Uluru.
Yuko’s Persimmon Perfection (New)

Possible as a substitute or to give my friend to grow:
Anna Russian, absolutely outstanding
Caspian Pink. , didn't deserve all the hoopla, for me when it first came out all those many years ago.;
Big Cheef, YES
Daniel Bursin, that would be Burson, not Bursin, a creation of Bill Jeffers, outstanding for me.
Margaret Curtain
Not Purple Strawberry, excellent
Orange Russian 117 ( Dawson’s Russian Oxheart), first gold/red bicolor heart, interesting parentage that Jeff used, and excellent when it is happy, like almost all gold/red bicolors.
Orange Jazz
Soldacki, outstanding for me
Stump of the World, also outstanding for me.

Of course my comments are based on where I live/ed, how I grow /grew my tomatoes, weather in any one season, etc,you know, all those nasty variables that can't be controlled most of the time.

Default A "Must" Try if U haven't all ready!!

"Pink Pioneer"!! Can't say enough about this tomato. If you like that "old fashioned" tomato taste, then look no further than this tomato. It's very large, darker pink than Caspian Pink, as least it was in my humid winters in Florida. It's also a potato leaf/indeterminate variety. Great producer and hardly not prone to any diseases. It was much better tasting and productivity in my garden that Caspian Pink. Give it a try if U haven't all ready. I have seeds available if u want to try growing them in your tomato garden. Read more about this tomato at dianeseeds.com

Nan and Carolyn,

Thanks for your input. I think your comments are for the most part spot on. 2017 was a horribly wet summer so many varieties disappointed compared to previous years.
Anna Maria's Heart is planted every year because it is one of the first ones to ripen and even though it may succumb to disease manages to give me a decent crop until others ripen plus tastes good!
KBX, George D, Joe's Pink, Little Lucky, Jaunne Flamme are standards by now for me - usually very dependable. Little Lucky Heart will be the new one.
I agree that Orange Russian can be variable but as Carolyn pointed out is excellent when happy - problem is you don't know if an upcoming season will be a "happy" one so I don't mind taking the chance. My gardening buddy (farmer friend nearby with whom I share seeds) will probably plant that one for us.

Glad you give Dobson's Heart high marks as that will be a new one based on all the super reports.
Cherokee Lemon does really well most years with a good crop and taste for me.
The Caspian Pink was put on the list because it is supposed to set earlier than others but it has truthfully had mixed results which is why I put Hege in the must list and relegated it to the Possibility list.
Looking forward to the Evergreen, Carolyn, as I had heard good things about it and am glad it is one of your favorites. Malachite Box can be awesome under the right conditions but I lost last year's to Wilt and other years it has been very inconsistent but I persevere because when it's good it's really really good!!
I will only be able to enjoy my tomatoes until the middle of Sept. this year due to travels so have been trying to avoid late ripeners. Obviously that is never a sure thing either! I have grown all but the new varieties listed so know which ones can be touchy if not under the right conditions. But when things go well they are all great in their own way.
Each year different ones may do well compared to a previous year so I plant this variety because I know some of them will do better this year than last year having been terrific the year before.
Gardenboy, thanks for the info on Pink Pioneer which I have never heard of. It sounds fabulous but no more room this year. I will check out Dianeseeds from who I have ordered in the past.
Apologies for the Daniel Burson error - typo error. Will correct it!

Thanks again for the input. I really value all your opinions, especially on the new ones! I still have to cut the list down so that is all very helpful!!

I have been playing with my planning sheets this week... trying to offset the gloomy weather outside I guess. This is what I have come up with so far
Tomatoes
1. La Roma III (did really well here this year)
2. Super Sauce
3. Honey Delight
4. Blue cream berries (none of these made it into the house!)
5. Santa Maria (new for me)
6. Budenovka Red (new for me)
7. KBX (new for me)
Peppers
1. Poblano
2. Big Jim’s Legacy
3. Hungarian Cheese
4. Corni de Toro

I’m also planting eggplant, peas, beans, carrots, radishes and potatoes
And my garlic is in already

I think I will downsize on the number of varieties next year based on the results I got the last two years:

1. Terhune
2. GGWT
3. Dotson's Lebanese Heart
4. Rebel Yell
5. Early Girl
6. German Johnson (Benton)
7. A new goodie from Marsha
8. A new goodie from Marsha
9. Post Office Spoonful

I only include 7 and 8 because I am a realist, and I recognize that I have a problem

Love this post so just had to share my tentative list:

Sebastopol
Sungold
Omar's Lebanese
St. Pierre
Amana Orange
Pruden's Purple
Dagma's Perfection
Mrs. Maxwell's Big Italian
Black Prince
Green Giant
Missouri Pink Love Apple

I'm also going to try out some determinate varieties and see how they do in my little micro-climate of California-coastal area.

I have so many different varieties to try .. but very limited space ... it's so hard each year to figure out what I want to grow out new and if anything to keep from previous year! But that's part of the fun as well!
