A Most Excellent Blend!

I'm sure that there are many excellent seed starting mixtures, but I've found a new "winner." I've tried quite a few over the years, and definitely do want to try the D.E. as shown in another thread. I have OK results from straight MetroMix, but it has a lot of stems, etc. in it, so I end up screening it before use in seed starting (for smaller seeds like toms.) A couple of years ago I tried Burpee's Organic Seed Starting Mix, made with coir. Much less debris in it, and had good results with it -- certainly at least as good as MM. But this year, I decided to make it a bit "lighter" so I mixed about 1/3 horticultural vermiculite with 2/3 of the Burpee mix. Wow! I've never gotten roots like this from MetroMix! The plants are doing excellent!

Certainly possible that if I had used sifted MM with vermiculite I would have achieved similar results, but I'm thrilled with the results thus far.
