4 inch pot question

What are the actual measurements of the 4 inch pots that so many of you use for up potting your baby seedlings?

Are deeper better than the measurement across? I've been saving yogurt cups that are 6oz, but now I'm not so sure they are the best size, as I don't want to have to up pot more than one time from the germination stage.

I've used 5.5 oz cups and 9 oz cups, The problem I've had with the smaller cups is moisture control. You have to pay close attention to how dry they are because they can go from too wet to too dry very quickly.

Have you thought of using biodegradable pots such as "Cow Pots" or "Dot Pots". When your ready to plant out you plant the pot with seedling and no transplant shock. Been doing it the last 4 years and works great especially if you use a plant dip with Myco's and Actinovate.

Ami, I've thought about using biodegradable pots, but since I want to grow the seeds in DE, I don't want to introduce biodegradable organic stuff any more than necessary.

While damping off is generally just at the first few weeks of a seedlings life, I'm trying to prevent any of that kind of disease. I'm planning to use a mix of soilless potting soil mixed 1:1 by volume in the 4" plastic pots.

Where do you buy your 4" deep pots Keiththibodeaux? add do both of those sizes fit in the standard 11 X 21 flat?

I did search for plastic pots and found something called "Hobby Sheet Pots". They looked interesting to me. http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/p...ots-hobby-pack I'm guessing they need a standard plastic flat without holes in it so I can water from the bottom?
