Watering system
Does anybody else use any type of automatic watering system?
I use these tripods with the whizz-heads on them and timers. The last picture shows 2 times I have 4 setup now. And I use a multi function times and tripods in the pumpkin patch. |

I have a drip system set up in my garden. We have it as two of our zones on our automatic sprinkler system. It is great because we don't have to worry if we go out of town. We just have everything programed. You'll notice the weed block fabric---we bought the wrong kind that year---it only works if we mulch on top of it. So, we put grass clippings over it.

Spyfferoni: Where did you get your watering system...have seen one by Orbit called Dripmaster in the stores. Wondering if any one has tried that or can recommend one.

This place has information and drip kits:

I have a drip system as well...it's a lot of work to install each year, but maintenance free all year long. I don't lose any water to evaporation, can control exactly how much water each plant gets, and it's hooked up to my 4 rain barrels so I have excellent water for my plants.

Oh yes...bought all my supplies from dripworksusa.com . They have a starter kit that is great and I've bought a few extra parts from lowe's or from the hardware store. I was REALLY intimidated by the thought of a drip system, but once I started in on it, it was easy to do.

The main garden is 1250 sqft and the Pumpkin patch is 1000 sqft. Plus I have an Asparagus bed, Blackberry patch and 3 raised beds, 1 for herbs and 2 for garlic.
If you look close you can see the greenhouse. |

I sure do see your greenhouse, and those tall trellis-type structures too. Supports for your giant pumpkins?
You'd get a laugh out of my little 1 year old garden, I have a raised bed with okra and tomatoes in it, and a 100 sq ft flower bed with beans, a strip of asparagus, peas, strawberries and more tomatoes. I figure if I kind of ease into it a little at a time the neighbors won't notice too much when the "landscaping" disappears and the crops take over! |

The tall trellis is for Long Gourds. I didn't get it finished in time this year. The Gourds grow to over 10 feet in length.

Now I'm curious, what other giants do you grow? And, if I may ask, are the plants also giant or just the fruits?

In my main garden I grow just normal veggies. And the patch is just for pumpkins. I do like to grow something different every year.
My yard wasn't big enough for a garden so I bought another yard. LOL |
