Volunteer Bullseye
We made this round bed for my wife to grow herbs. I jokingly called it a wagon wheel, but everyone else told me it is an Indian Prayer Circle. Sure enough, I looked it up online and there were pictures looking just like it.
Anyway, I planted purple hull peas in it intending to turn them under to add some nitrogen to the soil. The peas came up and so did this volunteer tomato plant. This bed and plant is about 150 feet away from the garden where we grow tomatoes. I'm guessing a Cardinal (Red Bird) or a Finch had something to with getting that tomato seed there. It missed the exact center by a foot. Last edited by AlittleSalt; August 31, 2014 at 10:49 AM. Reason: delete a word |

That poor lonely tomato plant.
You must keep us updated on what it turns out to be and if it is something you can ID from tomato varieties you've grown in the past few years. The picture reminds me of a little song we used to sing as Girl Scouts all those years ago, which started with; I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch. Carolyn

That's a cute garden and should keep all the herbs nice and neat, unlike mine! Linda

I love it Dutch. I only remembered the first stanza so do I now go back and try to learn the other stanza's?

We just listened to the song
My best guesses would be: 1. 70% chance it is a Porter. 2. 10 % chance it is a Super sweet Cherry 100 F2. 3. 10% chance it is a Celebrity F2 or Yellow Pear. Those were the 4 volunteer types we had in the main garden this spring. We had 9 Porters, 2 SSC 100s, and 1 each of the Celebrity and Yellow Pear. Only time will tell. |

The volunteer plant I just watered and gave it a cage for support. Porter is a hot weather plant and it takes both high and very low humidity well. I'm going to look at other heat tolerant varieties. |

Where did i miss this.
Salt you are well on your way to having what they call a Keyhole Planter or garden. Just take out one of the sections and you will be able to get to the center of the thing. Here is a picture. |

I like the idea of a Keyhole planter after looking it up tonight. Worth your picture didn't show up for me. Just a white x in a black box.
We were thinking about planting Alyssum in the middle. |
