I like lakonic replies too, but this time its better to give a full reply allowing this thread to be one of the most popular in February/March time that having many threads about tomato and pepper amounts to start and grow

I could spend money out the butt for growing six plants in 3 EarthTainers, I'd rather go fishing instead.

100 - 150 tomato plants
30 - 60 pepper plants

I usually start and graft around 3 to 4 times that many tomato plants and give away the extras. This year I am cutting back a good bit but will try to graft as many as I can because I love hearing from people how much they love the heirlooms that cannot be grown in our area without grafting.

[Mojo resurfaces!]

I made the executive decision to rebuild my beds, so I'm going to end up with less linear space to put things. Even so, I anticipate 36 plants in the ground, maybe 48, depending on how I do the spacing.

30 or so at home, 100 plus at the big plot in the boonies and a dozen at a rental house.

75-100 plants if you are including what I give away, rather than just what I grow for myself. The problem is that the answers are not always as simple as the question.
