Favorite GWR
I posted this once before but couldnt find the thread using the search function. I have only grown Green Giant and absolutely loved it. Next year I want to add another GWR or two to my growlist. Cherokee Green is another that was highly recommended. Whats your favorite GWR in terms of taste and production?

What's a GWR?
Oh, apparently you're not allowed to ask short questions, so ignore this bit as it's just filler. |

Green When Ripe tomato.
Green Giant barely turns any color at all. It's easy to let one rot if you are not careful. Cherokee Green turns a bit of a golden color but is still mostly green.

Last year I grew Aunt Ruby's German Green and Cherokee Green. Cherokee Green was the most productive of the 2 and was absolutely wonderful for texture and taste. This year I'm growing Spear's Tennessee Green, Grub's Mystery Green and Evergreen for my GWRs and one called Green n Gold that is supposed to be gold on the outside and still green inside when ripe. One of those is going to have to be awfully good to beat Cherokee Green.

Ok, thanks.
Is the taste better, or are they just cool and different? Nothing wrong with cool and different, mind you, I'm just curious. |

Grub's Mystery Green was bit better in my garden than Green Giant, plus lots more productive...
Growing Cherokee Green this year... The russian Malachite Box named one is very good also, and crazy productive... Lime Green Salad gets honorable mention for a patio plant, but I consider it more of a saladette and the others are slicers... Jeanne |

GWR
My favorite GWR is Cherokee Green. It is larger and more tasty than Lime Green Salad. More fruit than Aunt Ruby's Green. And just tastes better than Green Zebra. The ARG Cherry and Green Grape are both on my don't grow again list. I tried Green Giant last year and the plant was a mule - 6' tall and no fruit. So mext year I'll try Grub's Mystery Green to go with Cherokee Green.

The GWR's are one of my favorite groups of tomatoes and I've grown lots of them, many mentioned in above posts, but my two favorites to date are:
Cherokee Green Green Doctors, a cherry which I think is much better than Green Grape.

GREEN DOCTORS
Thanks Carolyn for reminding me about Green Doctors. After you mentioned it I ordered it from Victory along with a few of the new ones you sent them for this year. Danko sounds interesting as does Polish Dwarf.

Well, I can't help ya as far as what my favorite gwr is at the moment. I've never eaten one, but in about a month or so, Lime Green Salad will be my favorite one so far. Hopefully, next year I will grow Cherokee Green as that seems to get more "I likes". I have six little LGS on my plant now and many more blooms popping out. We'll see. Good luck!

Cherokee Green has a great showing in the thread so far. I still cant imagine a better GWR than Green Giant although I have only tasted one. I want to grow 3 so right now I am looking at Green Giant and Cherokee Green.
