Default tomato that tastes like Marzipan

Do you love or hate marzipan?

I love marzipan, but then I also love fruit cake (and despise sponge cake). I also love marmite, hate peanut butter, and ADORE cilantro, so I must have very different taste buds to a lot of people.

The tomato that I love the very best tastes like a tomato version of marzipan! No wonder it hasn't hit the top ten at Tomatoville

To be honest, the seeds that I was given appear to be an F1 cross. It is supposed to be Early Annie, a compact RL variety, but saved seeds produce RL and PL indeterminates and dwarfs. Hard as I try to select RL dwarfs, my seedlings don't all grow at the same rate, and I have failed twice now to pick out the smaller ones, and ended up with indy's. Picking out the dwarfs looks easier than it is!!!! However, the great news (for me) is that the fabulous taste is always there, either with the round saladette fruits, or the pleated larger ones. Next year, I plan to grow several plants to see what comes up. I have also bought some Early Annie seeds to see if I love the flavour of the real thing .

There's a tomato called Marzipan Gold. I don't know if I still have it in my collection.

Yes,there is a Marzipan Gold tomato, introduced by Dorothy Beiswinger and still listed in the 2017 SSE Yearbook.

And no, it does not taste like Marzipan,it's a typical gold/red bicolor , the same as maybe 2-300 other gold/red bicolors.

But yes I do love marzipan, whether just the formed candies in the shapes of various fruits,or marzipan cakes or best of all the stollens sold at Xmas time that have a center portion that are ALL marzipan.

Carolyn, who must remember to order some from her new Alpanland catalog that came last week.

Hey! Marzipan lovers unite

Too bad that Marzipan Gold doesn't taste like marzipan!

Bower, my tomato tastes like "A.U." except that it has a yummy lingering after-taste. Mine was more productive than A.U. when I grew them side-by-side (wish I could remember what those initials stood for).

So... I don't have to go searching for Marzipan Gold seeds.

And, you should grow Yellow Stuffer next year, and stuff it with Marzipan.

I grew an odd one from an Emmy F2 hunt, DwarfProject, this
season. Odd in that it was difficult to describe. Like a sweet melon
honeydew/cantaloupe, with some mild acidity like a pink grapefruit.
More buttery than nutty. Nice big cherry. Pretty special in the
sweet cherry category. (I don't really care for the sweet ones that
are usually a bit bland).
Hope it grows similar next season.
The only one I have tasted that would come close to marzipan.
An early Sept fruit brixed at 11.5, then most at 9-9.5 - still high for a
tomato. Not that I brix tomatoes usually. I have it for my fruit trees.
But in this case I ran looking for the refractometer.

At some point, I should go do a search for Marzipan. Because I have no idea of what it is.

A tomato with marzipan flavor sounds sooo good! Is there also any with nougat flavor? If so, my garden would be perfect!!!

Auntie's Underwear? Amish University? Abominable Unicorn? Astronomical Usury? Aztec Unicycle? Astoundingly Ugly? Asylum Uprising?
