Default Minerva and Friends

I've decided to start a photo thread to keep as a sort of gardening journal. I'm always losing or accidentally destroying the notebooks I usually use, so electronic will be better.

Welcome to the garden of Minerva and Friends:
I love my cats so...expect lots of photos of them too!

The first flower of 2016

My sister made this for my birthday! It's pretty awesome!

Lovely blossoms! That is so cool. You have a very nice sister to make that for you.

Default Planted February 21, 2016

Clockwise from bottom left: Microgreens on a sprouting tray. Tray of 18: Stevia, winter savory, summer savory, walking onion bulbs, cutting celery, utah 52/70 celery, mint, sage, oregano (common), garlic chives, flat leaf parsley, english thyme, rosemary, sweet marjoram, regular chives. A tray of eggplants: Crescent Moon F1, Black Beauty, Long Purple, Ping Tung Long. The tag from my new spider plant.

You can't see them but I also started Sudduth's Brandywine, Stump of the World, Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry, and Tomatillos. The first two are going out very early under Wall of Waters and plastic, the last two are always so slow to germinate I planted some early to see how they do.

Rossa di Milano onions, Borettana cippolini-type onions, Flat of Italy cippolini-type onions. Waiting on a seed order to arrive (any day now) for my leeks and other onions.

Covered in snow right now.

Winter sowed Purple and Mary Washington Asparagus.

Something that had very close to the same numbers as a label. I was in the wrong folder. Whoops!

I too enjoyed seeing the picture of the card from your sister. I liked what I saw of it. We are no longer in the Victorian age. The year is 2016. Please consider posting it again. And thanks for starting this thread.
If you don't feel comfortable posting it again, then don't. I understand.

Here we go. Just something I got off of Pinterest I think? Maybe Facebook? Not a card or anything special. Just thought it was useful.

Default Shopping last week. Gardening is everywhere! I just had to...

...buy the gnome. I have anxiety and I often feel like he does at the end of the day. I think he'll live on my porch for now. Maybe even my entry near the shoes.

I've been planning on making a bug hotel for as many years as I've been gardening (so for five years....) I finally said, oh ****, I know I'm not going to get around to it this year, just buy one! It was on sale for 40% off too.

Default This is why I garden

flag.jpg

because it makes me happy

Purchased this garden flag for less than 75 cents. It's one of the first things I see when I come home.

Yep! Life is what you make!
It looks like you're found some of the keys.
Thanks for posting pictures of some of your "keepsakes".

Had a little time on my hands while today's lunch (hamburgers wrapped in lettuce leaves) was cooking.

Just a quick sketch of the front patio and porch plans. North is towards the porch.

(If you can't read the blurry notes it says - Shopping List: Archway -Freecycle?, Bench for porch?, build a picnic table)

Directly to the right of this little patio is my driveway/parking spot. I will probably use a cattle panel to make the archway (which will be planted with morning glories and moonflowers).

The patio is secluded from the road because of the way the house blocks it. Perfect little place to eat bbq, sip some wine, nibble on cherry tomatoes, and relax during the summer months.

Tonight I cleaned out my seed starting area (had stacks of broken pots and ripped containers in there along with other stuff that just needed to be taken out and put into the bin). It actually the utility room of the apartment I live in so it's a small room but the temperature stays even all year as does the humidity.

12819471_10153898953026772_879408530184909142_o.jpg 10633446_10153898956961772_5385479357642651807_o.jpg

Moved some of my storage around. Got things organized and put away.

I ordered two metal three tier shelves from Walmart and will pick up three more lights to make another seed starting setup to expand mine. It will be like this one on the Grow a Good Life blog.

The current setup will then just be used for large transplants and year round greens.

I put up a calendar, a dry erase board, and a corkboard. I have to run to staples or walmart and grab a packet of clear folder pockets that can be tacked to the corkboard. They will hold things like my monthly to do lists/reminders, tips and coupons torn out of magazines, scribbled notes to myself and seed packets for succession seed starting (things like lettuce and other greens work better for me as transplants started every 2-4 weeks).

I clip out things like this plan from the High Mowing Organic Seeds catalog for which lettuces to plant throughout the year.
