Thanks Worth! What would I use to rid my raised bed of them? I am not truly an Organic grower but I don't use chemicals unless I have to...........

BT would work and netting.
If it is them it comes from a moth. Last edited by Worth1; July 6, 2019 at 01:14 PM. |

Don't mean to butt in. I would more suspect the hornworm. Regardless, a good spray would be "Garden Safe" It'll take care of whichever it is and it's actually rated as organic. Eat your harvest the same day after spraying. Both Walmart and Lowes carry it (last time I checked). I keep it on hand to use when I need to get rid of some critters.
Tryno, I feel the same as you do about spraying. I also keep malathion and a couple others for heavy tasks. But I'm not quick to use them. Get some Garden Safe. I always buy the concentrate and it lasts me a couple years most times. I sometimes do "preventative sprayings" with it to combat wilt problems. This year is such a year when preventative spraying is necessary here at the Muddy Bucket Farm.

The eating pattern doesn't resemble hornworm, which like to carve a more even pattern. Some fruit boring worms.

No matter how many different critters have been involved, the Garden Safe will give the hornworms an instant tummy ache and will outright kill cutworms. It is a fungicide, insecticide, and miticide, and is based in Neem Oil. I've seen it put Japanese Beetles on the disabled list.

it was cutworm damage. you rarely or maybe never see them during the day. they feed at night time. You have to go out with a flashlight to see them creeping up the stem then they go back sown in the soil for the day. and Worth is correct, use Bt on the plant.
