Hello:

The taste of our version of Black from Tula is very fruity and rich, with a touch of saltiness(not too much, just perfect). This tomato is a perfect slicer for sandwiches, salads and cooking with...

This variety seems to handle early season cold weather better than any other variety I have, including the rain. Though this variety does surcumb to late blight come early September.

No matter what this variety will always find a home in our garden!

Gee, I was afraid of that. It's the ONLY black tomato that I didn't order.

There are many beloved black tomato vars. A quick search here at TomatoVille will reveal some topics about it. I have not had Black from Tula but I like Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, and Purple Russian. I have yet to hear a review of black tomatoes that didn't put Black from Tula at or near the top of favorites.

Seeing as it's only my second year, I did have success( and don't laugh) with Purple Prince.

Came in earlier than Early Girl. How's that for screwing up a newbie?

Hi there and welcome to Tville. Glad you were able to find us.

Just so you know, it's Purple Price, not Prince. Or it could be Black Prince, renamed. And I prefer the term EDTM (estimated days to maturity) myself.

I do understand that Purple Prince is a mis-spelling. That's why is said to Feldon "don't laugh".

Geeze, have I committed a faux pas? If I have, I'm very sorry. I would only use the term ETA (estimated time of arrival).
It's all I know.

That was my way of saying that I think Days to Maturity (from transplant) - frequently referred to as DTM - is really just an estimate and can be affected by various factors, so I think something like EDTM is probably more descriptive.

ETA would work too.

How's it compare with Cherokee Purple?

This is my best season in four consecutive ones for CP. Must have been the cooler start to summer

And taste is up when others are down.

Paul Robeson is struggling in this department this year. Good to very good, but that's it.

Got some other blacks in the wings, but Black Cherry is tasting great again.

You don't have to apologize for liking Purple Price or Early Girl or any variety.

I think the reason Purple Price maybe gets scratched off people's growing lists is that some people have an overabundance of foliage diseases with it.

But as I have learned, if it grows well for you, and you find it tasty, who cares what anyone else thinks.
