I’m not a breeder and know very little about the process. Period.

Also sorry I wasn’t the first to join the thread. I’m not here that often and when I am, I offer seeds and gather info. There were only 5 or so people before me to comment so your ‘show up and dismiss’ comment was off line.

Look, all you could have said was, ‘Hey, I know that seems expensive but let me explain what I go through to provide a product.....’
I would have read your response and been more educated. You chose to be rude and insult. That’s how I read it anyway.
I was not ‘throwing insult, being petty, know nothing of the value’ etc. Rude.
As far as ‘opinion for not growing’, who has besides you?

Don’t need IKEA or Big Mac analogies either thanks. Plenty of times, even recently, I’ve told someone their prices were too high and I didn’t have analogies thrown at me. Tree guy gave me an estimate, highest by 500$, I told him he was the highest, he didn’t fly off the handle and be unprofessional.

Don’t take it so personal. We’re not all professional growers here. Cut some people some slack.

I’ve tried the 6.95$ seeds from other outlets and wasn’t impressed except for their beautiful pictures and, write ups, and selling points. All seeds companies do that. I myself, will not got there again until I hear from home gardeners like myself.

Just give me, others the benefit of the doubt. That’s all.

Interesting advice.

And yes. I do take it personal. And I find your initial response, and subsequent responses typical of many people who seem to have very little interest in giving breeders or seed sellers the benefit of a doubt.

I have paid as high as $2 per seed for tomatoes and considered it a bargain as the resulting plants produced an abundant crop of very tasty tomatoes. That is $60 for a pack of 30 seed. Cheap seed are often expensive in the long run.

The rule of thumb I go by is if I think something is overpriced, I don't buy it. No "oof" produced.

Sometimes we all could benefit from a walk in the other guy's shoes.

Benevento seed update:

It looks like Benevento seed will not be available until mid-March. The minute it arrives we will be germinating it in our greenhouse and it will be up on our website.

People are free to make comments and express their ‘opinion’ but of course others may read such a terse put down on the price and think the price is too high and won’t buy the new variety. The poster later says that they don’t know anything about the processes of hybrid production ( research development, time and labor of production, or the prices of hybrid seeds). Would have been helpful to include the ‘educate me’ in the first comment.

Many people may only buy cheaper hybrid seeds like Big Beef
if they think $6.95 (30 seeds , no shipping) is too high.
That is actually quite reasonable and inexpensive.

Anyway, I am huge fan of Momotaro (Japanese tomato).
At Fedco I get 10 seeds (TEN SEEDS) for $6.25 plus it is $6 to ship
(Also got it from Kitazawa Seeds, Territorial, and a few other places. )

Mountain Magic is another I love and it is $4.25 for 10 seeds (TEN SEEDS)
Plus shipping (better to combine multiple packs).

I’ve gotten many, many hybrids over the years from Johnny’s, the seeds can be very expensive as is the shipping. For instance, Tomimaru Muchoo was 15 seeds for 10.90 plus shipping.

I grow in the fall and winter season of S Florida.
This season (2020/2021) I got several hybrid seeds from Artisan seeds to try.

I have great pictures of Talvez and Agi Red taken this Feb. 2021 but no way to post them as I no longer use an image posting site.

Talvez had incredibly bold flavor and very productive . Beautiful too. AGI red
was sweet and very good. I immediately went and ordered more Talvez a few weeks ago for next year and wanted Benevento and Jazz but they were sold out. Will order later when they are available. The pack of Agi Red seeds had a lot so I didn’t need to order more. Artisan Seed prices are very reasonable with no shipping charges. Talvez hybrid F1 was $5 dollars for 20 seeds AND FREE SHIPPING. Looking forward to trying Benevento and others next season in Florida.

Wow, those look amazing! I’m excited to grow several new and new to me varieties from Artisan this year as well, including Benevento!
I admire and respect the professional breeding expertise and hard work that goes into these beautiful high quality new tomatoes and I feel proud to be among the first who will get to grow some of them this year.

Integrated Pest Management and early proponent and developer of biological controls.
That quote has always inspired me to avoid insecticides that negatively impact beneficial insects lest we end up having to repeatedly spray and spray to our detriment as we have taken over their job.
