My second Tasting - KBX v. TYW v. Sweet Ozark Orange

Here are a couple pics. KBX is on the left in the first one, on top when cut up. Tom's Yellow Wonder is the lightest of the three.

As you can see, KBX is much meatier than the others. Sweet Ozark Orange has the brightest Orange I have ever seen on a tomato. VERY bright! Tom's Yellow Wonder had such a citrus-like flavor it was very distinct!

2 adults, 3 children in a blind taste test..

Adults were the same.. KBX followed by TYW, the SOO. It has always been a fav of ours! In my top three of all time so it's hard to beat. TYY goes well with a light White Wine!!

Very impressed with SOO. Should produce a good bit over time! Will grow again.

Children were also the same. SOO, KBX then TYW!

Love to have fun with new varieties!

Very nice. KBX is one of my favorite tasting tomatoes. But I usually only get 3 or 4 fruits so I've quit. Should have grown this year based on yields so far.

Very interesting. My SOO seems late to mature - big greens, but they just hang on there.

Chapinz, KBX usually produces at least a dozen for me. All nice size. Biggest ever was just short of 2 lbs! Thats the one in my avatar! Usually a few over a pound! Keep trying and you will get rewarded!!

Scott, SOO was a week later than my KBX. Hang in there!

Does anyone have SOO? I've lost contact with Sam, and the year I was able to grow them they were fantastic, I want to grow more!!

Two years ago, my KBX broke at transplanting. I didn't want to try to let the stub leaf out and maybe grow, so I bought a plant for another variety at a Farmer's Market because I could not find any KBX. That was the first year we went without KBX since the first time I grew it and hopefully the last. Fairly productive and very delicious and one of the more healthy foliage tomatoes in the garden. My favorite BLT tomato, one slab fits perfectly.

What I think would be a fascinating comparative tasting would be KBX vs Yellow Brandywine vs Elbe vs Aunt Gertie's Gold - four very similar light orange potato leaf large beefsteak types. I've grown them separately but not together and really like them all, with Yellow Brandywine (from my memory) getting the edge because it has more tartness than sweetness.

Three of those four were featured at Tomatopalooza[tm] V.

I don't recall the exact comparison, but I do remember KBX, Kellogg's Breakfast, and Orange Heirloom were each favorites of a few surveyed at the tasting....

Hi Lee! Waving at you from 4 hours west. The three you mention tend to be on the sweet side, so not surprising they would be among favorites. I like em more tart, myself!
