Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear about you having to spend time in hospital, but I know you'll recover quickly because we all need you here and you'll be anxious to get back to all things tomato. Wishing you a fast and painless recovery.

I just spoke with Carolyn about 30 minutes ago. Her voice sounded a bit better today. We didn't talk for too long, because the nurses kept interrupting her to check her heart, administer IV meds, etc.

Her white blood cell count is lower and they removed the nasal cannula (oxygen). I remarked that this would be a good time to quit smoking and she admonished me with "shut up about that", so I let her off the hook - for now anyway.

She said she'd eaten some Kozy Shack pudding earlier and had tried a piece of roast pork, but it was like shoe leather from being overcooked. When I mentioned that Mrs. M., her mother and her Polish aunts and sisters were having one of their pierogie parties, she gave out a groan and said she could go for some of those. I was glad to hear that her appetite is improving.

She informed me that she was looking at her discharge information chart on the door, then lamented that all of the fields were left empty. No date, no ride info, no shoes (?), nothing. Her tone of voice had changed and I knew she felt discouraged.

I quickly changed the subject and told her about the many well-wishes that you've all posted here. I starting reading them to her, but a few moments later I heard a nurse in the background, telling her that she had to check her heart, so I asked her if she wanted me to call back. She's having more tests done this afternoon, so she said for me to call tomorrow after 9 a.m.

One last word of farewell, Dear Master and Mistress.

Whenever you visit my grave,

say to yourselves with regret

but also with happiness in your hearts

at the remembrance of my long happy life with you:

"Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved."

No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you,

and not all the power of death

can keep my spirit

from wagging a grateful tail.

Holy cow. I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending my best wishes to her.

EDIT: Just saw Mischka's reply. Just a quick note, I'm NOT sorry that she's getting a bit better!!
